  1. Workshop 9 Parameter Manager

  2. Workshop 9 – Goals • Goal: • Use the Parameter Manager to specify changes to the load magnitude and material properties of our model and solve all scenarios at one time. March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-2

  3. Workshop 9 - Start Page • From the launcher start Simulation. • Choose “Geometry > From File . . . “ and browse to the file “Lever.x_t”. • When DS starts, close the Template menu by clicking the ‘X’ in the corner of the window. March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-3

  4. 2 Workshop 9 – Preprocessing • Change the working unit system to metric mm. • “Units > Metric (mm, kg, MPa, C, s)” • Insert the material aluminum from the material library. • Activate the “Engineering Data” application. • Highlight “Materials” and “RMB > Import Material From File” 1 3 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-4

  5. 4 . . . Workshop 9 – Preprocessing • Check “Aluminum” material and “OK” to import. March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-5

  6. 5 Workshop 9 - Environment • Highlight the Environment branch. • Select the surface of the large horizontal cylindrical hole. • RMB > Insert > Cylindrical Support. • In the detail window change “Tangential” to “Free”. 6 8 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-6 7

  7. 9 . . . Workshop 9 - Environment • Select the bottom face of the vertical cylinder. • RMB > Insert > Fixed Support. 10 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-7

  8. . . . Workshop 9 - Environment • Select the surface of the smaller horizontal cylinder. • RMB > Insert > Bearing Load. • In the bearing load detail switch to the component method. • Enter a magnitude of 5000N in the Y direction. 11 13 12 14 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-8

  9. Workshop 9 – Boundary Conditions 5000 N bolt load in Y direction Fixed Support Cylindrical SupportRadial, Axial = FixedTangential = Free March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-9

  10. Workshop 9 – Solution Setup • Highlight the solution branch. • RMB > Insert > Stress > Equivalent (von Mises). • RMB > Insert > Deformation > Total. 16 15 17 • RMB > Insert > Parameter Item > Parameter Manager. 18 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-10

  11. Workshop 9 - Parameters • Set up parameters by toggling on ‘P’: • Enable bearing load Y component as a Parameter. • Enable Maximum Total Deformation as a Parameter. 19 20 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-11

  12. . . . Workshop 9 - Parameters • Set up material as a parameter. • Expand the Geometry branch and highlight “Part 1”. • In the detail window make “Material” a parameter. 21 22 March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-12

  13. 24 23 . . . Workshop 9 - Parameters • Highlight the Parameter Manager branch. • In the Parameter Worksheet place the cursor in the “Scenarios” section and RMB to “Add” a new scenario (add 3 new scenarios as shown at bottom of page). March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-13

  14. . . . Workshop 9 - Parameters • Set up the Parameter Manager worksheet as below: • Scenario 1: As set up in problem description. • Scenario 2: • Bolt Load Magnitude = 5000 N • Material = Aluminum alloy • Scenario 3: • Bolt load magnitude = 10000 N • Material = Structural Steel • Scenario 4: • Bolt Load Magnitude = 10000 N • Material = Aluminum alloy March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-14

  15. Workshop 9 - Solution • Check the status of all scenarios and make sure each is checked. • Solve. March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-15

  16. Workshop 9 – PM Notes • Drag the dividers between columns to resize them. • Can change definition names and they will update in the scenario table. • Only checked scenarios will be solved. Divider March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-16

  17. Only the last solved scenario will be available to postprocess. It will be displayed in Bold type. Workshop 9 - Results • To update the results to a different scenario check the scenario then solve. March 29, 2005 Inventory #002216 WS9-17
