  2. State of Play Global Fund is seeking $15 billion over the next three years to finance the defeat of AIDS, TB and malaria. Several donors have already make strong commitments (UK, Nordics), but reaching this goal will be challenging. U.S. is hosting the replenishment conference in early December

  3. Our Goal U.S. pledge of $5 billion over three years. One-third of total Global Fund need. Flat funding from current level of $1.65 billion.

  4. Our Narrative

  5. Our Narrative The world faces a choice to defeat AIDS, TB and Malaria. This choice is possible because of advances in delivery, science, and data, but will not be around forever. The U.S. must lead the world down the right path.

  6. Delivery The opportunity to defeat HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria is the result of a rapid expansion of life-saving health services to the people who need them most.

  7. Delivery In Africa, only about 50,000 people were on antiretroviral therapy (ART) to treat HIV/AIDS in 2000. Last year, over 7.5 million people in Africa were on treatment.

  8. Delivery Deaths from TB have declined 40 percent since 1990.

  9. Delivery Households with an insecticide-treated bed net to protect them from mosquitoes carrying malaria increased from 3 percent in 2000 to 53 percent.

  10. Science AIDS treatment reduces the risk of transmission by 96 percent.

  11. Science GeneXpert provides a drug-sensitive diagnosis for TB in under 2 hours.

  12. Data Better allocating current resources to “hot spots” could increase our impact on the AIDS epidemic by 20 percent.
