CASHS Structure The White House • Grades 9 & 10 • Students are “teamed” in core courses. • Students are housed in each wing by grade level. • Assistant Principals, counselors, and secretaries are housed in each wing. The Blue House • Grades 11 & 12 • Courses are focused on college & career readiness. Meeting graduation requirements is a heavy focus. • Assistant Principals and counselors are housed in each wing.

  8. Freshman Academy We believe that: Where positive learning is promoted, a career education is presented and quality relationships are pursued There will be academic and social success for all!!!

  9. 9th Grade (Freshmen) • Freshmen Academy • Counselors will be coming into classrooms to provide information on graduation requirements. • Our goal is to have all schedule changes completed by Friday, August 29th. • Link Leaders (mentors) • Will be coming into classrooms during Activity Period (Schedule G – Fridays) in the fall to lead you in activities on how to be successful. • Social events are being scheduled (freshmen football tailgate, CCC).

  11. Attendance • Attendance matters here at CASHS. • Your academic success is directly linked to your attendance. • Attendance = Success • School begins at 8:00 AM (bell rings at 7:52 AM to report to your first class of the day). • Be in your first class of the day on time or you will be marked late/absent.

  12. Midterm and Final Exam Exemptions • 9th graders will not be exempt from midterms and finals beginning with the 2014-15 year. • 10th graders will be exempt from midterms and/or finals if they meet the criteria. This is for the 2014-15 year only. • Beginning with 2015-16 all 9th and 10th graders will be taking midterm and final exams.

  13. Keystone Exams • Currently 3 tested courses – Algebra I, Biology and English. • You must demonstrate proficiency to graduate. • Exams are given at the completion of the courseduring the month of May. If you score non-proficient, the exam will be re-administered the following school yearin December/January.

Class Officers • If you are interested in running for Class President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer or Historian, applications are available from your Class Advisors. • Applications are due no later than Friday, August 29th by 9:00 AM. Applications are available in: *Room B333 * Room A207 * Room B241

  16. Class Officers continued… Elections for class officers will take place Tuesday, September 2nd in English classes.

  17. To be eligible to run for class officer, you must meet the following criteria: • Have a 2.0 GPA from the previous school year. • Maintain good citizenship (behavior) – Assistant Principal will give approval.

  18. To maintain class officer status you must: • Attend at least 4 Class Advisor meetings held during the school year. These meetings typically are held before school hours. • Maintain a 2.0 GPA while in office. If your grade falls below 2.0, an impeachment hearing process will take place.

  19. To maintain officer status continued… • Show your report card to your advisor at the end of each marking period. • Be in good behavioral standing and promote school pride within your building and community.

Homecoming continued… • Wednesday, September 24th • Parade 6:00 PM – beings at CAMS South • Powderpuff Games 7:30 PM – Trojan Stadium • Bonfire 9:30 PM – Bus Peters Field • Friday, September 26th • Homecoming Variety Show – 9th grade via V-Brick • Football Game 7:30 PM – Trojan Stadium • Saturday, September 27th 7:00-10:00 PM • Homecoming Dance – CASHS Cafeteria

Homecoming Powderpuff Games • Games – FR vs JR; SO vs SR; Championship • Each team must have 3-5 student coaches. • Each team will be limited to 30 females on game night. • You must attend practice in order to play. Practices will be organized and run by your student coaches, not your class advisors. • Each team will be limited to 10 male cheerleaders. • Class Advisors will have permission forms. Forms are due by Wednesday, September 3rd.

  23. Homecoming Bonfire • BIG BONFIRE BAND BATTLE • Showcase your rock band at the bonfire! • Compete against 2 other rock bands! • The first 3 bands to be approved are in! • Interested? Contact Mr. Unruh in A309.

Student Responsibility • Read the Student Handbook. • Carry your Handbook/Agenda since it is your pass! • Put a combination lock on your locker! • If you are sent to the “office,” please report first to your grade level Assistant Principal on your floor. If that principal is not in their office, then report to the main office to see one of the Associate Principals.

  25. CASD Dress and Grooming Administrative Policy

  26. Common Dress violations: • Camo shorts • Printed pants (including jumpsuits) • Short shorts, skirts, dresses – remember 2” above the knee • Low neck line – remember 3-finger self-check from the base of the neck • Writing/graphics on front or back of tops

  27. CASD Dress and Grooming (cont) • Following the Dress Policy is a personal responsibility. If an item of clothing is not permitted, then please do not wear it to school. ● The first five days of school only(August 25-August 29) students in violation of the dress policy will receive the following: - Verbal correction – “No harm, no foul” and - Required to change clothes (if unable to change, the student will be sent to a separate room for the remainder of the day) and - Parent contact ● Beginning September 2nd the following protocol will be followed: - First offense – one day of ISAAP, parent contact - Second offense – one day of ISAAP, parent contact - Third offense – parent contact, one day of OSS - Fourth offense – parent contact, three days of OSS

  28. Headsets, Cell Phones , Lasers & Other Electronic Devices • These items are not permitted to be used during the school day at CASHS. Violation of this policy will result in confiscating of the item and/or suspension. • Each offense = 30 minute detention slip & student may retrieve the device upon completion of detention. • Refusal to submit the device results in suspension.

  29. LOCKERS • Your locker is subject to search with reasonable suspicion. • As the user of the locker, you shall assume no expectation of privacy to the locker or its contents. • Only items used for legitimate purposes may be contained in the locker. • You may use only YOUR assigned locker. • LOCK YOUR LOCKER—including in the GYM locker room.

  30. Absences/Tardy • When you are absent from school, you have 3 days to bring in a note in order for the absence to be “excused.” • When you are tardy to school, you must bring in a note the SAME day explaining the lateness. • Band Students – You must be in your first class by 8:10 AM. • Check Home Logic WEEKLY for your attendance records.

  31. Sickness During School • If you become sick during the school day, you MUST report to the nurse in order to be excused from school. • If you contact a parent/guardian via call/text without seeing the nurse, your absence for the day will be unexcused.

  32. Medical Appointments Schedule appointments before/after school when possible. Process for Doctor’s Notes: • The day of the appointment, bring in a note stating the name of the doctor, the appointment time, and the excused time. • Report to Attendance Central (cafeteria or main office) for a green excuse school slip. • To be released from class, show the green excuse slip to the teacher. • Sign out in the office. REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS!

  34. Hall Passes, Backpacks and Video Monitoring Your student agenda will serve as your hall pass. This needs to be signed by a staff person when traveling in the hallways during class time. If you lose your agenda you may purchase another agenda or orange pass from the main office. Multiple video cameras are located both within and outside the school for your safety. Backpacks are not permitted in the hallways, classrooms, cafeteria, etc. during the school day.

  35. Bullying/Harassment Bullying will not be tolerated at CASHS. Students who are considered to be bullying others will be subject to a variety of interventions and discipline at CASHS. Students who are considered to be harassing others will be subject to CASHS discipline and may be referred to the CASD police department for legal charges. Please refer to your Student Handbook for more detailed information about these policies.

  36. Weapons, Drugs/Alcohol, Fighting One of the primary goals at CASHS is to maintain a safe learning environment. The possession, use or distribution of alcohol or drugs will result in significant disciplinary consequences, and possible expulsion and referral for legal charges. Weapons of any type are prohibited on school property. Students found to be in possession of a weapon will be subject to an administrative review and legal charges.

  37. Continued…. Resolving conflicts through fighting and verbal arguments is not appropriate in our school environment. Students should seek the assistance of teachers, counselors and administrators for assistance with conflicts they have been unsuccessful in resolving on their own. Fighting will result in a 3 to 5 day suspension and possible legal charges potentially resulting in fines. All students are asked to report any school safety concerns to a school staff person and/or a school administrator.

  38. Tobacco Possession Students who are found to be in possession of any tobacco product (including but not limited to: smoking/smokeless tobacco, evape cigarettes, lighters, pipes, and/or paraphernalia) will be referred to the SRO’s and subject to a $50.00 or more fine.

  39. Detention Detention may be served daily in room B104 from 7:20 AM to 7:50 AM and from 2:55 PM to 3:25 PM. Friday PM detention may be served with administrative approval. You must arrive on time AND show your CASHS picture ID and have some type of work or reading to complete. Students who owe detention time may be placed on lockdown and will not be able to participate in certain activities.

  40. School Pictures • August 29th – Follow the dress policy • Make-up date -- September 26th • You MUSThave your picture taken for your Student I.D. card, but you do not need to buy a picture packet. • Must be carried at all times • If you are asked by a teacher, you must produce your ID card. • Help us protect your safety at school.

  41. CASHS Yearbook • Yearbook Sales: On sale September - January • Students will receive 2 letters in the mail. • NO extra books will be ordered!

  42. Activity Tickets & School Insurance • School Insurance and Activity Passes are for your benefit. • Activity Passes are a bargain at only $15.00 when you order picture packets. ($20 if you purchase an activity pass after August 30th.) • Activity Passes will be designated on your Student I.D.
