  2. Vocabulary Practice In pairs or alone, create a vocabulary cartoon for your word.

  3. Minilesson- Proofread Proofread your paper first! Spell words as best you can! Fix mistakes by crossing out.

  4. Precise Nouns & Verbs Replace weak nouns & verbs with accurate replacements. For example, if you were revising the sentence "This is a good book that tells about the Civil War," think about whether "book" and "tells" are as strong as they could be before you worry about "good." (A stronger sentence might read "The novel describes the experiences of a Confederate soldier during the Civil War." "Novel" tells us what kind of book it is, and "describes" tells us more about how the book communicates information.)

  5. Repetition Look for repetition. When you find it, decide if it is "good" repetition (using key terms that are crucial and helpful to meaning) or "bad" repetition (redundancy or laziness in reusing words.

  6. Add Adjectives & Adverbs Always use precise language. (Teenager instead of kid) Add adjectives and adverbs to clearly describe your ideas.

  7. Words to Avoid Avoid: stuff things kind of sort of good bad maybe like something (these words can always be replaced for more precise and descriptive words)

  8. Reading Chapters 17, 18 & 19 Complete Study Guides & Character Charts Make sure you add Uchendu, Mr. Kiaga and all of the other new characters as well as details to Nwoye and Okonkwo.
