  11. Installation & commissioning • In several stages • Stage 1: DCS for devices in racks: LV, HV, VME, etc • synchronized with cabling • Stage 2: Full DCS system • synchronized with detector installation • Stage 3: Integration with DAQ, TRG, ECS • lab tests: work-plan defined for each detector • At P2: synchronized with detector installation • Stage 4: Configurations • H/W setup, Alarms, Archival, Access Rights, etc

  13. Coming next

  14. Some reminders • Guidelines and Installation Instructions • Read before starting - documented on DCS website and explained many times • Often not followed • Registration of devices • Send request with device info, MAC address, etc. well in time • ACC will register, assign name, IP number and test • Requires each time manual intervention of IT at P2 • S/W Installation • Hand over project to ACC well in advance (D-4 rule) • ACC will check and upload to Installation server at P2 • Detectors will install on the WN’s • Don’t install undeclared s/w • Backup after installation

  15. Working in the DCS environment • Access to CR3 is often requested • All DCS computers are installed in CR3, but access to the counting room is restricted. Connections shall be made remotely, using the Application Gateway (AGW) • Detectors can use own laptops or “thin clients” • Connection to DCS computers is granted via AGWs • Wireless GPN available “everywhere” • Portable GPN outlets installed outside racks

  16. Thin Clients • Currently 5 thin clients are available • Diskless computers running embedded Linux from EPROM • RDP client software installed • Configured as portable devices, can be used on portable GPN outlets • Three clients are in addition equipped with wireless bridge • Procedure for their use • Request the device from ACC (P.Rosinsky) • The device must be locked using the supplied Kesington lock if not used
