  1. Welcome to Mrs. Carbajal’s Class Open House 2013 - 2014

What Parents should know: • Teacher Website: www.schoolrack.com/carbajaLL (remember two L’s at end) • Teacher’s Phone: 305-335-1448 (Text or call from 3:20 – 9:00 p.m.) • Students will be given an educational facebook called Edmodo if they want notifications (this is not a requirement! Just to make sure students are on track). • Class codes are for each period with a specific class code.

  3. Supplies • Composition for Science • Loose Leaf Paper • Individual Pencil Sharpener • Calculator • Scissors • Glue/or glue stick • Crayons/coloring pencils • Thumbdrive or flash Drive

  4. Rules • Be in Assigned seat with all materials (students should look at front board for what objectives are – I also tell them 30 seconds before bell rings) • Treat everyone Respectfully (learn to say thank you, sorry, etc.) • Wait to be acknowledged before speaking • Only use technology when given permission • LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED UNLESS WITH AN EXCUSED ABSENCE – students are usually given time in class to start or finish homework, it is their responsibility to use their time wisely.

  5. Consequences and Rewards • 1st offense – verbal warning • 2nd offense – parent phone call • 3rd offense – Morning detention • REWARDS – I give my children lots of verbal praise. I also let them have snack while doing group activities. • MORE LABS and FUN Activities

  6. What we do in class • Reading – Specific strategies for Common Core Standards. • Writing – Strategies for technical and argumentative writing (CQST’s) • Lots of Hands on activities. • Lots of Use of TECHNOLOGY!! But you do not need to purchase your child a phone – don’t let them tell you that. • Homework is assigned daily.

  7. Things our class ALWAYS needs • Toilet Paper – Often I have 4 or five kids with sniffles, easier to give them a roll of toilet paper • BANDAIDS • NEW SPONGE – I use this for ice packs. • Crayons – USED IS FINE • Pencils – USED IS FINE • Pens – USED IS FINE • Wipes, or Paper towels. • Also assistance with Lab Supplies • THANK YOU!!
