  1. Electric Field Instrument (EFI) • Electrical Fabrication and Test

  2. Electrical Fab and Test (1) • Preamp • ETU electrical and mechanical fab and assy at UCBSSL. • ETU functional test and calibration (power; stability; basic AC/DC transfer fctn., linearity, sm/lg signal response) with Cluster spare cable and BEB breadboard or ETU, and prototype EFI test fixtures. • ETU thermal stress test (l-N2) (TBD). • Flight electrical fab and assy in-house (Silver 180 as clean Flight assy. area). • Flight functional test and calibration (as above) with flight cable, BEB ETU, and EFI test fixtures. • Flight thermal stress test (TBD).

  3. Electrical Fab and Test (2) • BEB • ETU electrical and mechanical fab and assy at UCBSSL. • ETU functional test and calibration (power; stability; basic AC/DC transfer fctn., linearity, sm/lg signal response; bias system response and accuracy) . • Flight electrical fab and assy TBD (Addition TBD as clean Flight assy. area). • Flight functional test and calibration (as above). • MCB • ETU electrical and mechanical fab and assy at UCBSSL. • ETU functional test and calibration (power over voltage range). • Integration into SPB ETU. • Flight electrical fab and assy TBD (Addition TBD as clean Flight assy. area). • Flight functional test and calibration (as above). • Integration into SPB Flight unit.

  4. Electrical Fab and Test (3) • II&T EFI/BEB • Full-Flight functional Test and Calibration using EFI/BEB GSE (automated; one axis at a time; power, stability; detailed AC/DC transfer fctn., linearity, sm/lg signal response; bias system response and accuracy) (3 days). • Limited functional test and calibration with temperature during II&T TVAC using internal test functionality (power; basic DC transfer fctn.). • End-to-end fields calibration (SCM, EFI/BEB, FGM and DFB) (may be combined with full-flight functional test and calibration). • SC I&T • Functional tests using internal test functionality only (basic DC gain; AC response, if stable in stowed config.).

  5. Electrical GSE • Block Diagram of EFI/BEB GSE

  6. Electrical GSE Requirements (1) • Power/Thermal/Mechanical • Provide regulated voltages. • Facilitate current measurements. • 6U VME support (w/out Wedgelocks) for BEB. • Portable and rugged for transport. • Open rack for access while under test. • Connectors acceptable for Flight interconnection • Electrical Interface • Backplane interface per IDPU backplane specification. • 1 MUX’d analog housekeeping output (ANA HSK). • GSE interface circuitry must be flight-grade.

  7. Electrical GSE Requirements (2) • Command and Telemetry Handling • GSE sends 24-bit CDI commands per ICD specification. • Command format is compatible with IDPU and MOC GSE (TBD). • Before DFB and DCB, data is from GSE’s IEEE-1394 ADC. • Afterwards data is extracted from telemetry. • Test Support Equipment • GSE controls GPIB function generator and +/- 100-V supplies. • “Faraday cage”-type test fixture (pairs for SPB and AXB). • Compatibility with Next Level of Integration • Uses ITOS, LabWindows (or equiv), C. • PC standards. • Easy accessibility to data for offline processing (FTP, HTTP, etc.).

  8. Electrical GSE Requirements (3) • Data Manipulation and Display • Plot any of 16 channels over user-specified timespan. • Calculate 2N-point FFT on user-specified channels. • Compute and display power spectra and transfer functions of user-specified channels. • Display control values for GPIB and GSE interface equipment. • Support hardcopy output. • Raw and derived data, as well as configuration information stored in tabular ASCII format file. • Data manipulation and display scriptable to allow for automation of test and cal procedures.
