  2. Insulation Requirements

  3. ASHRAE ASHRAE 90.1 – Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings Not a code - ANSI approved standard, referenced in building codes Standard used in approximately 80% of U.S. states.

  4. ASHRAE Goals Energy Efficiency Improvement Past 18 years - 23% Next 5 years + 25% Minimum 5-8 years 50% 8-10 years 75%

  5. Advanced Energy Design Guide(AEDG) Energy Efficiency Improvement Next 5 years + 30% Fast Adoption Public Construction High Profile Public Companies

  6. ASHRAE 189.1 Standard for the Design of Hi-Performance Green Buildings “Purpose is to provide minimum requirements for the siting, design, construction and plan for operation of high performance green buildings.”

  7. ASHRAE Standards Defined • 2008 – 90.1 Currently in place • 2009/10 – 90.1 Addendum G • Minimum Standards still being debated • Scheduled to take effect in 2009 • Will be minimum code in 2010 • AEDG - Advanced Energy Design Guide • 189.1 – Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings

  8. Rigid Board – Insulation Values Rigid board is referred to throughout charts in this presentation. The following are insulation values for Thermax insulation board in various thicknesses:

  9. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map

  10. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 1 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  11. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 2 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  12. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 3 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  13. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 4 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  14. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 5 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  15. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 6 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  16. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 7 Most of Alaska is in Zone 7 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  17. ASHRAE 90.1 / IECC Climate Map Zone 8 Semi-Heated buildings receive heat only and are designed to maintain a winter minimum inside temperature of 50 degrees.

  18. Insulated Wall Panel & Roof Panel Solutions • Not addressed specifically in ASHRAE • Continuous Insulated Solution – substitute for rigid board requirements • Tested values, installed = tested values

  19. Architectural Market • Form leads function – aesthetics driven by Architect and Designers. • Sellers advertise and promote to get spec. • Manufacturers provide design & detailing • Centria largest • Benchmark #2 • Kingspan in Europe, growing in U.S. w/acquisition of Metecno (Alumashield, Benchmark, API)

  20. Architectural Market • Products • Horizontal & Vertical • Flat Exterior • 22 & 24 ga. Exterior (necessary - oil canning) • 24”, 30”, 36” wide • Thickness – 2”, 2.5”, 3”, 4” • Due to flatness requirements, Architectural panels are often produced on discontinuous or hybrid lines.

  21. Commercial/Industrial Markets • Function leads form • Product decisions driven by owners & contractors w/some Architect involvement • Growth potential huge – ASHRAE, GREEN • Big Box Retail, Car Dealerships, Mfg. Plants, Warehouses, etc. • Sellers promote and sell to Cont. & Bldrs. • Manufacturers minimal design & detailing • Competitive – 26 ga Exterior skin • Planking profile • Striated profile • Heavy Embossed profile

  22. Commercial/Industrial Market • Products • Vertical (some can be used horizontal) • Striated, Heavy Embossed, Mesa, Planked • 26 ga Exterior • 36”, 40”, 42” wide • Thickness – 2”, 2.5”, 3”, 4”, 5”, 6” • Largest Mfgs. in North American Com/Ind Mkt. • Metl Span • Kingspan • Alumashield • API

  23. Cold Storage Market • Niche Commercial & Industrial • Driven by owners & contractors • ~20 Specialized Cont. = 80% of U.S. • Products • Vertical • Mesa or Planked • 26 ga Exterior • 42” wide • Thicknesses 4”, 5”, 6”

  24. Trends - Economy vs Aesthetics • Use of traditional profiles to minimize oil canning (Plank, Mesa) • Owners & Arch. push for flat – Deep embossed up to 42” wide. Factory SP & Kynar or Polyester for field coating. • Natural Stucco look is driving light embossed 22 ga and factory spray coatings. • Mfgs. offering factory coating are Centria, Kingspan, Metl Span, API, IPS, Vic West • Tex Cote – field coating applied to 26 ga Poly. • Masonry and Other material • Consistent color and blend with other Arch. Features • Growing rapidly in California

  25. Roofs • U.S. and Canadian product development has focused on walls vs roofs • Metl Span is exception (past 5 yrs. SSR) • All Weather, CR2 – for (1/4:12) roofs • All Weather, HR5 similar to Kingspan, Vic West & API roof profiles.

  26. Product line focus for NBG • Wall Systems primarily. • CFR w/Simple Saver or Rigid board • Commercial / Industrial Market & Supplier • Secondary market - Cold Storage • Align with quality suppliers, • All Weather, Vacaville California • Vic West, Oakville Ontario • OEM, Cost • Offer short product line w/ Kynar Colors and Polyester for field coating • Detailing by NBS plants • Trims produced by NBS plants

  27. All Weather Insulated Panels to service Western U.S. • Located in Vacaville California • Launched business in 2004 • 2007 started up the newest, most advanced line in North America • Offer complete line of urethane core wall & roof panels w/ choice of flat or profiled. • Owners previously owned API, sold to Metecno in 2000.

  28. All Weather Insulated Panelsto service Western U.S. • Standard Products • SM 40 Standard Mesa Rib • MV 40 Micro Vee • HE 40 Heavy Embossed • HR5 Exposed Fastener Roof • CR2/CR3 Low Slope Roofs • RD5 Roof Deck for Conventional
