Schedule • 7:45 am – 8:05am – Homeroom • 8:05am -12:10pm – In Class • 12:10pm- 12:40pm – Lunch • 12:40pm -1:25pm – In Class • 1:25pm – 2:20pm – Band/ Music/Tutorials • 2:20pm – 2:30pm – In Class • 2:30pm – 3:15pm – P.E./Counseling Class/ Library/Teacher Conference • 3:15pm – 3:30pm – In Class • 3:30pm – 4:15pm – Tutoring ( Tuesday & Thursday) UIL ( Monday & Wednesday)

Conduct Behavior Expectations: • We have high expectations for our 6th grade students. • We expect the students to achieve academically to their fullest potential. • We expect students to contribute in a positive manner to our classrooms. 6th grade classroom rules: • Be Respectful • Be Responsible • Be Safe • Follow Sharyland ISD student’s dress code

  6. Absences and Make Up Work • 3 tardies equals one unexcused absence • Unexcused absences, student may not make up missed work • Excused absences, student has one day per every day absent to make up work

  7. Cell Phone and BYOD Cell Phone Policy: • Cell phones are to be off at all times. • Cell phones should not be used on the bus. BYOD • Parents/guardians make sure to complete online registration process.

  8. Things You Can Do At Home To Help Your Child At School • Make sure your child reads AR books daily. • Ask your child about school and take an interest in what they are learning. • Set limits on the amount of television/video games/internet usage • Make sure your child brings their supplies and books to school everyday • Make sure your child brings lunch if he/she doesn’t like the school lunch. • Make sure they get enough sleep.

  9. Things You Can Do To Help Our School • Volunteering • Collect BOX TOPS • Supporting our School Fundraisers • Attend School Functions • Mentoring Program

  10. Student’s Agenda Communication tool • Upcoming events and what your child is learning in school is noted on the agenda • Daily parent/guardian signature is required • Do not sign ahead • Teacher message to parent/guardian • Homework • BYOD

  11. Homework • Your child will have homework on a daily basis. It will reflect the skills that we are covering. • Homework is due the next day. • Homework is noted on the agenda

  12. Accelerated Reader Our goals: • A minimum average of 5 AR points per week at 90% per student • A minimum of 20 AR points per grading period at 90% per student • 50% of 6th graders become AR Millionaires • Model Classrooms • Model School

  13. UIL • Practices will be Monday & Wednesday 3:30pm to 4:15pm • Bus transportation is available • Information will be sent out to parents after September 16, 2013 • Mrs. Leticia Rios, School Coordinator

  14. Grading • Major Grades = 60% Major Assignments: Tests Reports Research Papers Projects/Presentations Essays • Minor Grades = 40% Minor Assignments: Daily Classwork/Practices Homework Quizzes Accelerated Reader Lab Work Binder Checks

  15. Tutoring • Tuesday and Thursday 3:30pm to 4:15pm • Bus transportation is available • Information will be sent out to parents after September 16, 2013 • Permission slip will be given to student

  16. STAAR TESTS Week of April 21 -25, 2013 • Reading STAAR Test ( April 23, 2013) • Mathematics STAAR Test ( April 22, 2013)
