Georgia Broadband in 2006 • Seed programs for wireless communities and rural based technology • 802.11 Wi-Fi preferred technology • Re-investment in broadband principles and strategy • Environmental scans on success factors on broadband deployments nationwide • Need for updated infrastructure maps for fact-based decision making • Growing need for broadband literacy and capacity building

  6. Lessons Learned from WCG and BRIDGE • Context: • Broadband is critical infrastructure for economic development • Data tells conflicting stories about Georgia’s broadband status – (Georgia 4th slowest state, Akamai “State of the Internet Q1, 2008”)

Georgia 2020 – What will we be enabling? • State Broadband Office focused on enabling: • Quality partnerships (state, regional and internationally) • Better use of new technologies (trials) • Grants management (federal, state) • Dynamic statewide mapping dashboard applications to capture real-time broadband technology deployments • Adoption programs online and integrated statewide (workshops, classes, certification programs) • World-class backhaul infrastructure operating at terabytes/sec and beyond
