  10. How many teachers are there? We have decided to answer this question by simply stating that we plan to hire teachers to maintain a ratio of 25 students: 1 teacher. That way the students will be attended to according to their needs. Return to Staffing Questions

  11. What are the qualifications of the teachers? Certified? The hiring of the teachers will be based on the standards set forth by their specialty. For example, to be a teacher of welding, the teacher must be a licensed welder. This type of guideline will follow all of the staff. Return to Staffing Questions

  12. Is on going counseling Support available to student if needed? Each student will be assigned a counselor that will follow them through the program. They will provide the student with support, guidance, and will be responsible to help them obtain a job. Return to Staffing Questions

  13. Will they have any mentors in the school? Although the term “mentor” will not be used at the school, the counselor will be responsible for 30 students. They will provide the emotional and psychological support for the student. Return to Staffing Questions

  14. What are the requirements to get into the school? A minimum of 15 years old, has a desire to learn, willing to abide school rules. Return to Entrance Requirements Questions

  15. How much will it cost? The purpose of the school is to provide an alternative to high school. It will be funded by the same attendance accounting system used at conventional high school sites. This means that the entire program will be offered to the student at no cost to them. Return to Entrance Requirements Questions

  16. How old does the student have to be? Students must be 15 years of age to enroll in the program. Return to Entrance Requirements Questions

  17. Do they use a uniform? Although a standard uniform will not be required, the students will need to wear proper clothing to the classes they attend. The instructor will provide a list of appropriate clothing for the students. Return to School Logistics Questions

  18. What are the rules, are they any dress code? The rules will be simple. Respect will be shown to all people, property and places. If this is maintained, then there will not be a problem. The student will receive a behavior/ attendance contract before beginning school. If the contract is violated, a determination hearing will be conducted with the counselor, director, dean, the instructors and the student to determine what course of action should be taken regarding the student. Return to School Logistics Questions

  19. Is there a limit to the number of students allowed to attend? At this time, we are estimating that on average, 100 students will attend the high school from the varying school districts. With 22 districts in the county, we are estimating that approximately 2200 students will attend the school. Return to School Logistics Questions

  20. What makes this school a good school? To describe the school as good or bad would not be accurate. The school is an alternative placement for a lot of students that don’t feel that conventional high school curriculum affords them with what they need to be successful. This school allows them to receive practical job training and the information necessary to pass the California High School Proficiency Exam. Return to School Logistics Questions

  21. How does a student get to the campus from their home? The student will be responsible to get to the high school of residence in the same way they would be required if they attended that high school. If they ride the bus, they will continue to ride the bus. A bus will then pick up the student from the high school and transport him/her to the vocational high school. Return to Transportation Questions

  22. How does the student get back home? Once classes are completed for the day, a bus will take the students back to the high school of residence. The student will be responsible to get from the high school to the home. Return to Transportation Questions

  23. Will I receive a certificate or a diploma upon completion? At the end of the program, students will receive both a certificate and a diploma. The certificate will confirm that they have received adequate training in a vocational trade to be considered for an apprentice program or an equivalent. The diploma will come when they pass the CHSPE proclaiming them proficient in high school curriculum. Return to Graduation/Job Placement Questions

  24. Are they going to be able to work as soon as they get out of school (job placement)? This is ultimately up to the student. If the student is ambitious, then the school will provide every opportunity to find job placement possible. If the student does not wish to work, they will not be forced to. Return to Graduation/Job Placement Questions

  25. Would it be easy to find a job? Hopefully, through partnerships with local businesses, the transition between school and work will be smooth and effective. Return to Graduation/Job Placement Questions

  29. Is the schedule flexible? The schedule of classes is as flexible as the counselor assigns. Return to Schedule Questions

  30. Does it go by semester like high schools? Because the students are not responsible for multiple class units, the traditional calendar will not apply. Students will receive a list of things that they must learn. Once the student has learned the material, the class will be completed. Return to Curriculum Questions
