  2. (BPST) II • Basic Phonics Skill Test (BPST) II, developed by John Shefelbine, was part of the California Reading and Literature Project –RESULTS assessment battery

  3. (BPST) II • Ages 7-10 years of age. • For first through fourth grade students. • phonics assessment for decoding and word recognition

  4. (BPST) II • No training required. • Materials needed are the scoring sheet, four test sheets, and the Directions. All of which can be downloaded for free.

  5. (BPST) II • Test location; student needs a quiet place, free for distractions. • There is no required time but through personal experience I found the average test to take five to fifteen minutes based on grade level and the student’s ability.

  6. (BPST) II • There is no basal and there is no ceiling, but this test can be used to set the basal for reading interventions like; The Houghton Mifflin Leveled Reading Passages Assessment Kit
