  1. How To Solve A Polynomial Function Section 5.1 Page 342 #74 F(x)= (x+1)(x+4)(x-3) Miguel Acevedo Daniela Joseph Sarah Virando Phdeidra Bennett

  2. F(x)= (x+1)(x+4)(x-3) • Since the polynomial function is already given to us factored we can skip that step. Polynomial Function

  3. To find the x intercept you have to plug in zero for Y. • 0 = (x+1)(x+4)(x-3) • (x+1)=0, therefore x= -1 • (x+4)=0, therefore x= -4 • (x-3)=0, therefore x= 3 • There are x-intercepts at (-1,0),(-4,0),(3,0). X intercepts

  4. To find the Y-intercept you must plug in 0 for all of the x values in the polynomial function. • Y= (0+1)(0+4)(0-3) • y=(1)(4)(-3) • Y= -12 This gives you the y intercept at (0,-12). Y intercepts

  5. Determine if graph touches or crosses the x-axis.

  6. F(x)=(x+1)(x+4)(x-3) F(x)= (x2+5x+4)(x-3) F(x)=(x3+5x2+4x)-(3x2-15x-12) F(x)= x3+2x2-11x-12 • After foiling the function above we found that the degree is 3. Find degree of Polynomial

  7. X and Y Values

  8. F(x)= X3+2x2-11x-12 The graph shows that the graph has the x intercepts at (-1,0) and (3,0). The y intercept of this function shown in the graph is (0,-12). Since the graph is going from right to left and is going in the up direction this shows that the trinomial is positive.

  9. Phdeidra Bennett- x intercepts/zeros of function • Daniela Joseph- Multiplicity, Touching or crossing, Y intercepts. • Sarah Virando- Foiling and finding degree of polynomial. • Miguel Acevedo- Determining basic shape of graph and making the graph using intercepts and finding points.
