  2. Visuals • Collect pictures, graphics, and artifacts to display with your project • The project should not be all text—you should have visuals to show the judges and anyone else looking at your project • Make sure to get source info—you have to cite images too!

Beginning Your Project • Create an interesting title for your project • Plan the layout/organization of your project • Make sure it is easy for viewers to read and has a good color scheme • THREE IMPORTANT SECTIONS TO INCLUDE • 1. Background/Historical Context • 2. Connection to Theme • 3. Impact on the Future

  4. Background/Historical Context • Background and basic information • What lead up to your event? • What is the background story to your individual? • Be sure to include all appropriate information • Use quote and pictures to show the background

Connection to Theme • Rights and Responsibilities in History • How does your topic fit the theme? • How did your person/event/movement change or influence rights and responsibilities in society? • COME UP WITH YOUR OWN EXPLANATION based on research • Should be in your own words • It doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does have to be yours • Use quotes and pictures to back up your point

  6. Impact on the Future • Try to show how your person/event/movement impacted the future • Use quotes and pictures to back up your point

Quotes and Pictures • Quotes should have quotation marks around them • WEBSITES, DOCUMENTARIES, or PERFORMANCES  the bibliography should make clear where you got information • PAPERS  see me for guidance • ON EXHIBITS under each quote or picture used, you need to add a citation • Citation = author or title of article, website or source of image • Its as simple as adding the website where the picture is from or the author of the quote • If you used a quote from a website and there is no author, put down the shortened URL

Written Materials • ONE set for each group/project • Websites = written materials posted to website • Annotated Bibliography • Separated between primary and secondary sources • Use the “tag” function on easybib • Process Paper • See the NHD rule book (just four paragraphs) • Cover Page • See the NHD rule book for formatting

  9. Review Rules • Go to http://www.nhd.org/CreatingEntry.htmand review the rule book to make sure your project does not break any rules or requirements • For example, there are WORD LIMITS to websites and exhibits. However, they only apply to your own words, not to quotes that you use.
