  4. sasmira Origin & Activities • SASMIRA was established in 1950. • A co-operative Research Association registered under Societies Act of 1860. • SASMIRA helped growth of nascent man made textile industry of 1950’s to a giant industry today. • Originally SASMIRA was under CSIR, then Ministry of Commerce, now Ministry of Textiles. • It has its own Campus covering 11,810 sq.mts. • It is engaged in multifarious activities.   40. sasmira PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT facility – to evaluate & certify agrotextile products • There are few entrepreneurs in the field of agrotextile in India, majority small entrepreneurs • The entire gamut of products under agrotextiles are currently not being manufactured in India. • Any single manufacturer does not have the infrastructure facility to produce all the products. • The Centre of Excellence can assist the manufacturers of agrotextile products in development of new products suitable for usage by the Indian cultivators. • It can help to showcase the manufacturers the new technology and process for development of the various agrotextile products. • The technology and processes can be suitably adopted in the industry after studying the market acceptability of the developed product prototypes.   43. sasmira Standardisationof agrotextile products • COE Agrotextile is assisting BIS Committee for Agrotextile TX-35 in formulation of standards • A committee comprising of manufacturers, users and academician has been formed for the purpose • Activities undertaken by the COE • Formulation of a draft standard • Circulation among the Committee members & amendment in standard thereof • Wide circulation to a large number of manufacturers for their views. • Finalised draft preparation for each standard • Forwarding the final standard draft to BIS TECHNOTEX 2011
