It was the year… 2004 • First “post-war” participation of young researchers from Serbia (Belgrade) in a technical congress organized in Italy by the University of Bologna (3rd Youth Symposium of Experiment Solid Mechanics) • Return visit to the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of “Vinča” (Belgrade) by two researchers from Bologna

It was the year… 2005 • Participation of three students from Serbia (Belgrade, Kragujevac and Kraljevo) at the 4th YSESM edition in Italy • Three researchers from Bologna and one from Buenos Aires atthe conference “Heavy Machinery ‘05” organized in Kraljevo (Serbia) • Official support by Italian embassy in Belgrade and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs

It was the year… 2006 • Large participation of Serbian and Italian researchers to the 5th YSESM in Slovak Republic, and 1st shared publication • Serbian professors inserted in the steering committee for the YSESM. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Kraljevo (MFKV) is assigned to be organizer for the 6th YSESM 2007 • 15 Serbian students are involved in Industrial Design course organized by University of Bologna in Bertinoro and financed by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research

It was the year… 2007 • MF Kraljevo, supported by Bologna, organizes the 6th YSESM in Vrnjacka Banja, attracting there over 100 researchers from all over the world • On Italian initiative, Serbia becomes member of Danubia Adria Symposium association; 2 Serbian professors included in the DAS steering committee; MF Belgrade is assigned to be organizer for the DAS annual meeting planned for 2012 • two Serbian students start PhD courses in Bologna • 1st joint educational project on developing new master courses in Industrial Design at MF Belgrade awarded to consortium of Serbian (Belgrade, Kragujevac), German and Bologna universities (EU Tempus, 2 years, 300,000€ of budget) ATC SRBIJA - Automobilski trening centar za Centralnu Srbiju

It was the year… 2008 • 1st joint research project on strengthening railway vehicles centre at MF Kraljevo awarded to a consortium of universities from Kragujevac, Belgrade, Bologna, Stockholm, Wien [EU FP7 Capacities, 3 years, 1M€] • Workshops in Fatigue of Materials in Serbia with the participation of teachers from Italy • Partecipation to EU technologic platforms and other coordination events for FP7 / FP8 • Serbian researchers from Kragujevac individually involved as external expert in a trans-regional research project for SMEs [EU ERA Manunet, 3 years, 1M€] ATC SRBIJA - Automobilski trening centar za Centralnu Srbiju

It was the year… 2009 • 1st applied research project on application of composite materials in railway vehicles using national funds for transnational cooperation [Italian Minister of Economic Development, 2 years, 150.000€] • 20 Serbian students involved in a one month course on Experimental Mechanic organized by the University of Bologna in Bertinoro, financed by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research • Workshops in Mechanical Engineers in Serbia with participation of teachers from Italy • Intensive exchange of professors between the university of Bologna, Kragujevac and Belgrade with their participation to classes

It was the year… 2010 • Two joint large-scale projects for regional development starting: • on advanced engineering concepts as rapid prototyping in MF Kraljevo • on education for training and retraining in the automotive industry in Sumadija • [EU IPA RSDP2, 3 years, total 1.2M€] • Intensive exchange of researchers between the universities of Bologna and Kragujevac and their participation on technological projects • Joint research activity for transfer of technology respect to Italian industry needs (e.g. Magneti Marelli, etc.) • Common publications and participation to congresses

Up to now… 2011 • Definition and signature of operative agreements between Institutions for a common strategy • Italian and Serbian researchers fully involved on reinforcing the transnational cooperation • 1 project proposals on reinforcing the implants eng. research centre at MF Kragujevac [REG-POT] • 4 project proposals under evaluation to reinforce the Serbian system for High Education[TEMPUS] • Developing Advanced Study Programmes in Environmental and Civil Engineering for Western Balkan • Product Development and Design Curriculum Strengthening in Mechanical Engineering Education • Customer Relationship Management (CRM) System Towards University-Economy Cooperation • DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF AUTOMOTIVE AND URBAN ENGINEERING STUDIES IN SERBIA ATC SRBIJA - Automobilski trening centar za Centralnu Srbiju

  17. toward the future…. 2012-13 HUMAN RESOURCES ENVIRONMENTAL RESPECT With the aim to reinforce the automotive cluster in Sumadija, several project proposal are under discussion and preliminary definition: • Creating a common database of CVs, shared between educational institutions and opened to enterprises/stockholders able to support: • the hiring of human resources with proper expertise • the mobility of workers throughout the Country • an adequate tool for social monitoring of unemployment • Develop technological solutions to convert fuel engine in a zero emission electric power-train to: • enlarge the life span for old cars • reduce costs for mobility and maintenances • propose an environmental sustainability ATC SRBIJA - Automobilski trening centar za Centralnu Srbiju

  18. toward the future…. 2012-13 ENTREPRENEURSHIP • Transforming the “ex-Zastava” manufacturing suppliers in a efficient network of SMEs able to operate in the global market and with respect to modern standards by investing in: • Quality assurance and certification • Safety of workers and adequate training • Sustainability of processes and environmental protection • Design&production realized with criteria of efficiency These preliminary proposals have been developed under the supervision of the Serbian Minister for Economy and Regional Development, FIAT Group, Zastava and other public institutions) ATC SRBIJA - Automobilski trening centar za Centralnu Srbiju
