  2. The Blood of Christ

  3. The Crucifixion Story in Brief “When they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out”(John 19:33-34). Died as a Criminal(Mat. 27:38) Hands Nailed(John 20:25) Feet Nailed(Psa. 22:16) Side Pierced(John 19:34)

  4. The Crucifixion Story • Why Jesus’ Blood Was Shed

  5. Sin Is Demanding. • Sin (law-violation) demands that a penalty be paid—the penalty is DEATH(Rom. 6:23). So... • Blood-sacrifices have always been demanded. Why? Because “life is in the blood”(Lev. 17:11). • Our blood is inadequate for our sin because we’re sinful (Rom. 3:23). • Animal blood is inadequate because they have no will (Heb. 10:4). • Only God’s own (perfect) blood is satisfactory (1 Pet. 1:18-19). So...

  6. His Blood Had To Be Offered. • As Messiah, Jesus “was delivered up for our offenses and raised for our justification”(Rom. 4:25). • As High Priest, Jesus “with His own blood … entered The Most Holy Place [Heaven, v. 24]..., having obtained eternal redemption”(Heb. 9:12).

  7. We’re Saved By His Blood. • Places Us Near to God (Eph. 2:13) • Purges Our Conscience (Heb. 9:14) • Remits Sin (Mat. 26:28 & Heb. 9:22) • Cleanses Us (1 John 1:7) • Forgives Us (Eph. 1:7 & Col. 1:14) • Justifies Us (Rom. 5:9) • Reconciles Us (Col. 1:20) • Redeems Us (Eph. 1:7 & Col. 1:14) • Sanctifies Us (Heb. 10:29 & 13:12) • Washes Us (Rev. 1:5)

  8. The Crucifixion Story • Why Jesus’ Blood Was Shed • For Whom It Was Shed

  9. FOR EVERYONE! Jesus“was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for EVERYONE” (Heb. 2:9).

  10. FOR EVERYONE! Jesus “is the propitiation [payment] for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for THE WHOLE WORLD”(1 John 2:1-2). “Everyone” Includes…

  11. Those of the Past as well as the Present! Jesus“is the Mediator of the newcovenant by means of death [and] for the redemption of the transgres-sions under the first covenant, that those who were called may receive” eternal life(Heb. 9:15).

  12. The Crucifixion Story • Why Jesus’ Blood Was Shed • For Whom It Was Shed • How It’s Applied

  13. The Blood Applied Although Jesus shed His blood for all, all aren’t saved! Why? Becauseof free-will (Rev. 22:17).And… Since Jesus shed His blood in His death(John 19:33-34), we must get into His death to contact the blood (Rom. 6:3-4); i.e., we must be placed “in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).

  14. Baptized Into Gal. 3:27 1 Cor. 12:13 Redeemed in Him by Blood (Eph. 1:7) Made Near in Christ by Blood (Eph. 2:13) Reconciled in one body by Cross (Eph. 2:16)

  15. The Blood Applied What When Blood Rev. 1:5 Mat. 26:28 Washed Remission of Sins Baptism Acts 22:16 Acts 2:38

  17. The Church Purchased Paul spoke to the elders at Ephesus about caring for “the church of God [the Son] which He purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28). Paul wrote to the church in Corinth asking, “Do you not know that … you are not your own? For you were bought at a price” (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

  18. Christians Purchased Peter said, “you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot”(1 Pet. 1:18-19).

  19. The Crucifixion Story • Why Jesus’ Blood Was Shed • For Whom It Was Shed • How It’s Applied • Who Was/Is Purchased • What Was/Is Dedicated

  20. The NT Dedicated Paul wrote that“where there is a testament, there must also be the death of the testator. For a testa-ment is in force after men are dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Therefore… [Cont. ]

  21. The NT Dedicated “not even the first covenant was dedicated without blood. For … Moses … took the blood of calves and goats … and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, ‘This is the blood of the covenant…’” (Heb. 9:16-20).

  22. The Crucifixion Story • Why Jesus’ Blood Was Shed • For Whom It Was Shed • How It’s Applied • Who Was/Is Purchased • What Was/Is Dedicated • When Remembered

  23. The Lord’s Supper (A Memorial) “Jesus took bread, blessed it and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body.’ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. For this is My body of the New Covenant, which is shed for many for the remissionof sins’” (Mat. 26:26-28).

  24. The Lord’s Supper (A Memorial) Paul wrote, “The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” (1 Cor. 10:16).
