How often is the IWB used?

Since 2007, the IWB has been used with …

1,200 students,

2,200 classes

for about 1,800 hours.

A 2009 study demonstrated significant gains in student learning when interactive,

multimedia technologies were used to supplement science instruction (Beaudry, 2010).

One more piece of the puzzle…

The impact and the cost

The impact and the cost…

Since 2007, Star Reader tests have been administered annually to 200 3rd to 5th grade students at least three times per year…

Providing immediate reading levels, progress and performance gains and placement information for

  • 0ver 25 teachers

  • 600 students

    at a cost of about…

  • $2.00 per student

The cost of this technology will continue to decline year to year…

  • Lexia is now available in Truckee and at all lakeside elementary schools.

Average cost of lexia thus far

Average Cost of Lexia thus far…

The cost of 1:1 or small group tutoring in the Tahoe area ranges from $25 to $50 dollars per hour.

The rate at TTUSD for before and after-school small group reading intervention programs is 40$ per hour

With one teacher, Lexia Learning labs provide supplementary instruction to 25-30 students at a time for:

  • $13.00 per student

  • $2.57 per hour

The costs will continue to decline from year to year.

The results1

The Results

In 2007-2008

Students receiving on average less than three hours of Lexia improved their performance on the State Star Language Arts Assessment by about 7 points.

  • Lexia Learning Lab students receiving an average of eight hours of literacy support increased their performance by

    11 points.

Future directions

Future Directions…

There are two likely directions for technology integration in school instruction:

Hand-held devices that increase student access to communication and information tools.

The movement from static pencil and paper activities to interactive digital storytelling venues: podcasts, movies, wikis, blogs, animations and more .

  • Personal Communication and Information Tools

  • Go Digital!
