  4. Genes and DNA • A gene is a section of a DNA molecule that contains the information to code for one specific protein • A gene is made up of a series of nitrogen bases in a specific order • ATGACGTAC • Anywhere from several hundred to millions of these bases can form a single gene

  5. Order of the bases • Genes contain codes that determine the structure of proteins • The order of nitrogen bases along a gene forms a specific genetic code that specifies what type of protein will be produces
