  2. Current Position of ICECI • Need alphabetical index - process underway at WHO • Translation - French translation is being reviewed • Overview of categories - once indexing and translation completed • Sent to CAS for checking

  3. CAS assessed taxonomy Classification should be comprehensive At each level there should be a single axis of classification Categories should be mutually exclusive Example Acceptance of ICECI into Family of International Classification

Also, it is not clear why pipe is included at 9.0801 while pipe tobacco is at 9.0810.

  6. Taxonomy Issues (3) • Need to control the structure by adhering to basic taxonomic principles • Sent to WHO Centre for the Family of International Classifications in the Netherlands which has responsibility for both the ICD ad ICF for reviewing ICECI to help these issues

  7. Overall planning • ICD Centre heads meeting in October 2002 • Will have overview of the issues that come forward as a result of translation and indexing • Plans for improvements

  8. Other relevant information • Spanish coding form - 3 month pilot test of form in Colombia starting May 2002 • Norwegian translation - on hold • WHO guidelines are published • MDS-Is in Europe - developed by Consumer Safety Institute; currently working on implementation • Website - launched 9/2001 • Requests for information - number of questions are being asked by users of ICECI; who should provide info to them?

Activities for maintenance of ICECI (1) • Co-ordination • WHO maintenance group • clearinghouse • co-ordination of development of minimum data sets • link between ICD-10 and ICECI • Dissemination of ICECI • training of developers of data collection systems • promotion of ICECI • development of materials for active promotion
