  5. DOE HBCU Program • Federal HBCU budget request for 2005 is $240 Mil. • DOE MICS budget request for FY2005 is $1 Mil. (approx 20% increase) • DOE MICS is committed to a strong and active HBCU program • Projects funded in the past • Mathematical & Numerical Studies of Nonstandard Difference Equation Models of Differential Equations • Scientific Visualization Initiative • Perturbation Theory, Scattering Systems, Interpolation and Control • Enhancing High Performance Computing Research and Education • Alliance for Computational Science Collaboration – Developing Computational Science Research and Education

  6. HBCU Grant Applications Workshop How do I submit a HBCU Grant Application to DOE? George Seweryniak DOE/SC-31 HBCU Program Manager Dec 7 2004

  7. Grant Application Process • Review the DOE Office of Science, Mathematical, Information, and Computational Sciences (MICS) www site • http://www.sc.doe.gov/ascr/mics/index.html • Review the DOE Grants and Contracts www site • http://www.science.doe.gov/grants/grants.html • Contact the MICS HBCU program manager with an application abstract (1 page max.) • George Seweryniak • seweryni@er.doe.gov • Submit a grant application to MICS HBCU program manager if appropriate • Office of ScienceNotice DE-FG01-05ER05-01 • Annual NoticeContinuation of Availability of Grants and Cooperative Agreements • http://www.science.doe.gov/grants/FAPN05-01.html • 4. Advanced Scientific Computing Research (ASCR) area of interest • Must be submitted via IIPS • http://www.science.doe.gov/grants/grants.html • (Spring 2005 e-grants.gov is planned to be implemented) • Application is reviewed internally in MICS by Subject Matter Expert (SME) • Funding review at MICS is performed • Application is sent out for peer review if appropriate • Award or Declination notification

  8. Elements of a good grant application • Addresses DOE MICS mission needs • Applied Mathematics • Computer Science • Network Environment Research • Is thoroughly thought out • Describe what you’re going to do! • Include a good abstract! • Long histories of prior work or the field are not needed but you should demonstrate that you aware of current work! • Has a realistic and justifiable budget • Is measurable • Has deliverables and progress reports • Is properly submitted • Via IIPS • All sections are filled out correctly • http://www.science.doe.gov/production/grants/quicklk.html • Has the required approvals • Form DOE F 4650.2

  9. Next steps • Grant Application ideas? • Questions? • Lets get to writing !!! • I will be available for one on one questions until 11AM today.
