Paléo Festival in figures2009 • 230’000 spectators • 176 shows on 6 stages • 1’455 musicians and technicians • 8’000 campers • 4’300 volunteers and 55 employed staff • 657 journalists and 215 medias • A budget of 21 million Swiss Francs (=~14.5 million Euro) The biggest music festival in Switzerland

Sustainable development policy • Reduce the production of waste and sort most of it • Reduce energy consumption • Implement and promote public transport • Implicate everyone in the cause • Take responsability for social actions • Is part of our charter of values A challenge for the whole organisation

Environemental objectives • Reduce the production of waste per festivalgoer to 800 g. and guarantee that a minimum of 50% of waste produced will be sorted and recycled in 2010. • Reduce energy consumption to 750Wh per festivalgoer in 2010 and guarantee it is 100% green energy • Reduce water consumption to 20 litres per festivalgoer in 2010 • Ensure that 40% of those attending the Festival use public transportation

  6. Means : limit individual transport • Large network of public transport, (free in the Nyon area) • Specific trains • Incentive for car-sharing • Bike and motorbike parkings Every year number of cars is decreasing

  7. Means : reduce waste • Important logistics • 13 waste handling points (non public area) • Reusable plastic goblets (900’000 goblets) • No sample distribution • Reduction of promotional supports A cleaner field gives a better image

  8. Results : impact of the Festival on the environement in 2009 • Attendies on site: 298’000 • Waste : 254 metric ton • Electric consumption : 221’387 kWh • Water consumption : 8’286 m3 Annual Trend: Waste Electricity Water Public Transport
