  1. Protection Switching for Point to Multipoint TESI Dr. Abhay Karandikar A Jishnu, M Vinod Kumar

  2. Introduction • Qay has P2P 1:1 protection mechanism • P2MP protection mechanism is pending • This presentation describes protection switching requirements for P2MP

  3. PBB-TE Network Topology BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3

  4. P2MP work TESI BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3 Work

  5. Concept • PBB-TE MA enhanced with MD levels • Switchover is performed first in the lowest MD level • If switchover fails within an MD level then switchover is performed in the next higher MD level • Switchover is locked-out in higher MD level using LockOutProtection (LoP)

  6. P2MP Protection: Segment 1 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect

  7. P2MP Protection: Segment 2 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect

  8. P2MP Protection: Segment 3 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect

  9. P2MP TESI Protection BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect

  10. HPD for Segment 1 Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3

  11. HPD for Segment 2 Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3

  12. HPD for Segment 3 Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 Link BCB3 BEB3

  13. HPD implementation Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 w w p p p p Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect -MEP CCM -MIP

  14. Fault in MDL = 0 Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 LoP=1 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 w w LoP=1 p p LoP=1 p p Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect -MEP CCM -MIP

  15. Switchover in MDL = 0 Protected Domain 1 => MD Level 1 Protected Domain 0 => MD Level 0 BEB1 BCB1 BEB2 BCB2 w w p p p p Link BCB3 BEB3 Work Protect -MEP CCM -MIP

  16. Benefits • Simple to understand, to implement and to provision • Other TESIs will be less affected by the switchover • Has less stringent requirement on the network resources • Some path segments need not be protected • Node protection can be handled • Node failure is similar to atleast two link failure • Leads to unified framework for link protection within a single PBB-TE domain • Leads to unified framework for protection across multiple PBB-TE domains
