  2. History of Our Program

  3. Arlington Baptist College received SBEC approval to offer the EC-4 Generalist for Texas certification in August, 2002.

  4. The College had been offering an Education program which included student teaching for a number of years, but graduates had to go through an alternative program , or take additional courses at another entity, in order to obtain their Texas teacher certification. 

  5. Because a number of graduates went through ECAP for certification, a collaborative relationship was built with Sharon Fikes.

  6. Since Arlington Baptist College already had an Education program in place, a student population was ready to enter the approved certification program as soon as the College was awarded that opportunity.

  7. Arlington Baptist College’s first completer list was for 2003-04, and consisted of seven (7) pre-service teachers.

  8. Since the initial approval for the EC-4 Generalist, Arlington Baptist College has been approved for the following additional programs:        All-Level Music (EC-12)           English, Language Arts, Reading 4-8         English, Language Arts, Reading 8-12 Social Studies 4-8         Social Studies 8-12         Science 4-8

  9. Completer lists since 2003-04 are as follow:                 2004-05 – 6                 2005-06 – 12                 2006-07 – 11                 2007-08 – 11                 2008-2009 – 6                 2009-2010 –5 2010-2011 - 9

  10. Current Program Features

  11. Programs require from 132 to 139 credit hours.  Changes that becameeffective in the Fall, 2009, were: 1. The elimination of nine (9) Bible/Theology required hours           2. Altering 2 of the 2-hour courses into 3- hour courses 3.  The addition of two new courses (3 credit hours each):             I. Education School Law II. Special Programs

  12. Expansion of the EC-4 Program In August of 2010, application was made to the Texas Education Agency to modify the EC-4 program to a Generalist EC-6 program.

  13. The Program now includes : • 8 hours of practical experience in the Reading Lab for REA 3312 Foundations of Reading • 10 hours of practical experience in the Math Lab for MAT 3310 Essentials of Mathematics I • 10 hours of practical experience in the Math Lab for MAT 3312 Essentials of Mathematics II • 18 hours of practical experience in the Science Lab for EDU4306 • Numerous hours of Peer Teaching experiences included in all methods courses

  14. Each candidate must complete 12 weeks of student teaching that includes lesson plans for every lesson taught, with TEKS included and objectives displayed. Also, an end-of-course portfolio is required for successful completion of the Education Program .

  15. All candidates must pass representative forms of the TExES exams with a 75% accuracy before being recommended for actual examinations.
