  3. What is a science fair project? A science fair project is an experiment/lab just like any other, except you design the entire thing! All science projects follow the scientific method, so…..

  4. You will be • Asking a Question • Designing a Hypothesis • Creating a procedure and doing the experiment to test your hypothesis • Analyzing your data • Drawing conclusions • Communicating your results

  5. Science Journals and Calendar • You will be required to keep a science project journal where you will record all assignments • You will receive a calendar of due dates for various parts of the assignments • YOU will NOT be given class time to work on your project, this is your project to be done on your time

  6. Guidelines • You will need to come up with a testable question first. • You will be working on your own, not in groups or with your parents • You will be graded on all individual assignments as well as your presentation and science journal • Your topics must be limited to chemistry, physics or astronomy • You will need to secure all of your own supplies for your experiment • The top 3 projects from each period will be featured at the CMI Science Night on March 1

WARNINGS: • Do not create a project that you wont be able to complete/that is too expensive • Your project must fit into the timeframe, not too long • Keep up with all deadlines to stay on track • All students will be making a presentation of their projects which may have a tri-fold board if you desire • The top 3 projects from each period will be featured in the science fair and must have tri-fold boards.

  9. Where to begin • Look at the dates on the calendar • Discuss letter with parents • Complete the science fair proposal form • Keep track of the time, you need to be able to do the experiment over winter break!
