  9. GERB-2 AutoSAFE Anomaly Review Update Telemetry anomaly signatures have been identified. A test programme using the GERB DM DSM has been initiated to assess the potential causes of the anomaly. A patch to increase the speed of the the QFM movement to blocked will be tested in December 2005 for use on GERB-1/2. Initial analysis seems to indicate a low risk of contamination from the greased bearing design partially tested in parallel with the baseline GERB bearing. Review board is expected to come up with recommendations for GERB-1/2 and GERB-3/4 early next year following results from the planned tests. GERB OPERATIONAL DETAILS (as of 12 December 2005)

  11. GERB-1 Integrated on MSG-2. GERB-3 IEU & IUH incorporated into GERB-4 Backup. The IEU will be further modified for improvements to the DSM timing. IOU will be stored under a dry nitrogen environment in RAL from Jan 2006 . GERB-4 GERB-4 backup available (GERB-3 IEU & IUH + STM IOU). GERB-4 expected to be delivered mid-Jan 2006. After satellite AIT it will be returned to RAL for detector replacement (TBC) and storage. OTHER GERB INSTRUMENTS (as of 12 December 2005)

Does GIST have a preference for GERB-1 & 2 operations during their respective sun avoidance seasons? GERB Parallel Operations (as of 12 December 2005)

  13. Future Dual Satellite Operations During the MSG-2 commissioning period and following MSG-2 relocation to 0° there is likely to be periods of parallel MSG-1 and 2 SEVIRI imaging. It is assumed that GERB will also be operated during these periods (baring sun avoidance restrictions). EUMETSAT are currently investigating the introduction of a rapid scan service for MSG (based on the MTP service) where a limited portion of the earth is scanned at a higher repeat rate. Questions: Is GERB data without SEVIRI images of any value? How should GERB be operated on a satellite performing SEVIRI rapid scans? GERB Parallel Operations (as of 12 December 2005)
