  2. Food • What is the most popular food in Japan? • In their daily life what is the staple food of Japanese families? • Where are many fish sold? • Is there a culturally correct way that the Japanese eat? • I need more help with eating the way the Japanese do.

  3. Culture • What is a pianica? • What is a Haiku? • Origami is a game of folding paper that the children of Japan enjoy. What is one of the most favorite shapes and why do the Japanese people like it? • Is Japanese theater like American theater? • Follow the directions on the next page.

  4. Appreciating Differences in Other Cultures  In this activity, you will read about some of the customs of the Japanese People and then you will be asked to write about a custom in your culture. First, read the article about Chopstick Etiquette in Japan.  Now, read the article about Bowing in Japan.  Next, read the article about How to Eat Sushi in Japan.  Next, read the article about How to take a Japanese Bath.  Next, read the article about Japanese New Year   With your partner, small group, or class, discuss the similarities and differences between the Japanese Culture and your culture. Now select a tradition in your culture and describe the process in detail. Write the description so that a person from another culture would understand. Use the examples you read to give you ideas. Remember how important it is to value the similarities and differences of all cultures!
