Sshrishti Vision & Mission • Vision • To create a literate India where each child has equal opportunities and enjoys their childhood with love and laughter, learning, and preparing for a life of dignity. • Mission • Bridge the educational divide through modern learning centers, which will meet the specific needs of the children of the migrant laborers. • Bridge the digital divide that exists between the impoverished remote villages and the cities by opening computer centers in villages. • To fight social inequity and ensure each child gets his or her birthright. SLC Project Highlights • SLC • I to III, then most to govt., few to private schools • Students: ~100, ~25 admitted to govt. school last year • Teachers: 5 + 1 computer + 1 part-time music/dance • English, Hindi, Math, Computers, Environment Sci. • Music, Dance, Recitation, Sports, Theater, Quiz • Free milk in the morning & mid-day meal • Subsidized books, stationery, uniforms, toys • Other • Remedial afternoon classes • Annual day, excursions, checkups, festivals, workshop • Monthly teacher-parent meetings SSHRISHTI LEARNING CENTER NEW DELHI

  7. Academics: Jan to Jun 2012 • Jan: Back from winter break, Weekly Mon assessments • Feb: Regular classes + 2 events • Mar: Final exams (III term), Students promoted to next class. SSHRISHTI LEARNING CENTER NEW DELHI

  8. Academics – Cont’d • Apr: New admissions start • May: Classes end 15th May. Summer vacations. New text books are researched and ordered. • Jun: School reopens on 15th, classes continue. New books issued. Meeting with teachers held to discuss new session. SSHRISHTI LEARNING CENTER NEW DELHI

  11. Surprise Site Visit • 19th July 2012 Morning • Sarika Malik (Viv’s Sister) • Report on Project Page • “The rooms were neat and clean with proper furniture. The students were in proper uniform and surprisingly well-behaved. They were conversing with me in English.” SSHRISHTI LEARNING CENTER NEW DELHI

  12. Site Visit – Cont’d • “Class 1A was the cutest of all. The kids were interactive. Anjali and Jitesh sang a rhyme for me while Anjum Bano read a chapter in English." • “Over all very nice set up. However, I feel that though some teachers seemed quite good, others could be a little more well versed. They also hold evening classes for the brighter students who wish to take some extra coaching."   13. 2012-13 Budget Proposal −5.5% Below 2011-12 Funding (Rs 7,74,828) even though costs are up SLC total budget around 11 to 12 lakh SSHRISHTI LEARNING CENTER NEW DELHI
