Digestion • A lot today’s foods have been stripped of essential nutrients, good bacteria and digestive enzymes. • Some foods contain additives, sweeteners, hormones and antibiotics which can be toxic and stressful on our digestion. • If your digestive system isn’t working properly, your body may not absorb the nutrients from the food you consume. • In order to obtain the benefits from the food we consume, we need to be able to properly...

Digestion • Digest, Metabolise, Assimilate and Eliminate • Poor digestion in your stomach can lead to food leaving the stomach undigested causing indigestion, cramps, reflux, stress and inflammation on the rest of your digestive system. • Unable to convert food to energy • Energy levels will suffer – cravings for sweet food and caffeine.

Digestion • If you can’t assimilate what you consume, your muscles won’t be able to regenerate and grow • If you can’t eliminate the indigestible waste from what you have consumed you won’t be able to detoxify yourself. • This can lead to constipation, inflammation and disease. • Any of the above can lead to stress being placed on your digestive system.

Assisting Digestion • Your stomach is about the size of your fist • As you eat your stomach stretches • if you consistently overeat, your stomach expects to be stretched every time • As we eat, signals are sent from the mouth and the stomach to the brain. • Depending on what we eat, it can take time for our brain to catch up to our stomach • If we inhale our food, we can easily overeat

Assisting Digestion • If we inhale our food, it can leave the stomach undigested and cause stomach cramps or acid reflux • How to assist digestion? • Apple cider vinegar or lemon juice • Stomach acids can begin secreting as soon as you smell food – cooking food will assist this • Include a good source of protein and fat with each meal. • Protein and fat send signals to your brain that you are eating sooner than carbohydrates. • Plant food

  7. Assisting Digestion • Chew food until it is liquefied. Stomach acid is produced during the process of chewing • Put your fork and knife down in between mouthfuls • Stop and rest halfway through your meal • Digestive enzymes • Pro-biotics

  8. Liver Detox • Rids your body toxins from food and drink • Excretes and burns body fat • Overloading the liver • Fatty liver • What can load our liver? • Alcohol, trans-fat, caffeine, sugar, synthetic substances, medication, processed foods, infections.

  9. Liver Detox • Eliminate processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, gluten • Include more natural live foods with each meal • Include green tea • Increase green leafy vegetables • Increase essential fatty acids
