  1. Thursday, October 10, 2013 • Please get out your topic selection sheet from yesterday. • If you were absent, please take a sheet from the table. • All Frankenstein makeup work is due by Monday. • I will have all grades updated by Monday.

  2. Topic Proposal Worksheet • If you want to pick your own topic, you will have articles to show me. No exceptions. No articles=pre-selected topics. • If you are choosing a pre-selected topic, you should be good to go. • Topic proposal worksheet is due at the end of hour TODAY. Please use your time wisely.

  3. Research Questions • You were supposed to come up with a series of questions for your topic. • Those should be useful to you today. Please get those out and begin filling in your topic proposal sheet.

  4. Write in your approved topic selection here.

  5. Topic Proposal Worksheet • When you are finished filling out your Topic Proposal worksheet, have me take a look at it. You will turn it in for final approval at the end of the hour. • When you have given this to me, please read your choice novel QUIETLY. • Meet in E132 on Monday to begin work on your topic!

  6. Learning about your topic---homework HW: This is to be completed over the weekend. The more prepared you are on Monday, the better you will do on this assignment. At home, get on your computer and start learning about your topic. This is NOT official research at this point. You are just going to be learning and reading as much as you can about your topic. • Your goal is background knowledge. You don’t need to find or remember any specific things YET. • Go through all 4 subtopics as you read.

  7. Background Research (write this down): • On a piece of loose leaf paper, write down things you want to remember about your topic. You should have at least a PAGE of notes: • Basic ideas • People and organizations related to your topic • Background and history of your topic • Arguments on both sides of your topic • Your goal is to learn about your topic and start figuring out different key words and phrases you could use to research your topic more specifically later. • You may use Google, Wikipedia, whatever. I would cut and paste any good websites into a Word document so you can find it again later. • A good student will come to class with completed notes and ready to work on Monday.
