  4. Important Dates for Fall 2007 • School Delivery Window - Oct. 16 - 18 • Short-Add Window - Closes Oct. 19 - 4:00 PM • AIMS HS Fall Test - Oct. 30 – Nov. 1 • Check-In Materials - Nov. 2, 5, & 6 • Test Reports Due - Dec. 14

Fall 2007 Test Schedule • Writing – Tuesday, October 30 - One testing session of 2 – 2 ½ hours Stretch break after 1 hour • Reading – Wednesday, October 31 - One testing session of 2 hours Stretch break after 1 hour • Mathematics – Thursday, November 1 - Two testing sessions of 90 minutes Significant break between sessions There are no make-up dates for Fall testing.   6. Scheduling - Writing NEW • May not begin before 7:30 am or after 10:00 am • Students may not be dismissed before 10:00 am • Students cannot start after 10:00 am regardless of what time the student arrived at school or normally attends school TAD 5 6

  7. Scheduling - Mathematics • Significant break after Part 1 (May Leave the classroom for 10-15 mins.) • After significant break students may not go back to Part 1 of the mathematics test • All students in a test room must be working on the same section of the mathematics test TAD 5

Test Times • AIMS tests are untimed • Times are estimated times necessary for the vast majority of students to complete the test • For students who are not finished in the allotted time, arrangements must be made to allow them to finish testing • NO AIMS testing session may carry over to the next school day TAD 5

  9. Students to Be Tested • All students in cohorts 2009, 2008, 2007, or below who have not yet “Met” on Writing, Reading, or Mathematics content area are expected to test in that content area • Proficient students who have previously signed-up to retest in hopes to “Exceed” in any content area may test • Private or home schooled students in the above listed cohorts who have signed-up previously TCM 4

  11. NEW Augmentation • State statute expires December 2007 for augmentation • Students graduating in 2008 or later are not eligible for augmentation 11

High Honors Tuition Waiver NEW • 2007/2008 will be the last year that seniors can retest for tuition waiver • Beginning with students graduation in 2009 only a student’s sophomore and junior year will be considered with determining eligibility for waiver • Notify parents and students of this change in writing 12

  13. School Test Coordinator Responsibilities Assign Test Administrators/Proctors Schedule training for test administrators/proctors Identify rooms for testing Determine procedures for students who need additional time Notify parents, students, staff of test dates and times

  14. School Test Coordinator Responsibilities Inventory materials Verify enough materials received for students testing Order additional materials by October 19 - 4:00 PM Ensure that any person in contact with the AIMS, signs a security agreement

Receiving Materials • Materials will arrive in lavender boxes • Keep and return all boxes • Upon arrival, open Box 1 to verify the counts on the packing list will cover your needs • If need more materials, order (call/email Cindy) by the deadline of the short-order window • Then open all boxes and inventory all test materials to verify the counts match the counts on the shipping list - If there are discrepancies, contact Bert

  16. Handling of Test Materials • Test administrators must collect their test materials from the school test coordinator at the beginning of each day of testing • Test materials must be returned to the school test coordinator at the end of each testing session • Test materials must be kept in a secure, locked storage facility when not being used

  17. Test Security Fall 2007 A copy of the AIMS Test Security Agreement must be signed by : • Principals • Test Coordinators • Test Administrators and Proctors • Secretaries • Warehouse personnel • Any person that will be in contact with AIMS testing TAD 3

Test Security It is unethical and will be viewed as a violation of test security for any person to: • Examine content of any portion of test • Disclose or allow to be disclosed the content of any portion of test before, during, or after test administration • Discuss any AIMS test item before, during, or after test administration • Influence students’ answers by offering assistance of any kind TAD 3

Test Security It is unethical and will be viewed as a violation of test security for any person to: • Change students’ answer choices • Review students’ answers, including the writing rough draft and writing final copy • Photocopy, transcribe, or in any way duplicate any part of AIMS test books • Fail to return all test materials, including unused documents • Participate in, direct, aid, counsel, assist in, encourage, or fail to report any violations of these test administration security procedures TAD 3

  20. Test Security It is a security violation to allow students to: • Have access to test questions or writing prompts prior to testing • Share information during test administration • Use scratch paper TAD 3

  21. NEW Test Booklets • Fall 2007 administration includes three test books: one for the writing test, one for the reading test, and one for the mathematics test • Each student will use only one answer document, regardless of how many content areas he/she will be taking TAD 7 21

  22. Test Administration • Use only Fall 2007 AIMS HS materials • Do not photocopy test books or answer documents • Do not disassemble or pull pages from the answer documents TAD 7

Prior to Testing Required Materials For Each Test Room • Student Sign In Sheet • A supply of sharpened, standard, wooden graphite-based No. 2 pencils with erasers • A pencil sharpener or additional supply of pencils • A “Testing – Do Not Disturb” sign • For writing only: • Dictionaries • Thesauri

  24. Test Administration • Test Administrators and Proctors must administer the test exactly as directed in the Test Administration Directions • Test Administrators and Proctors must be employees of the school • Test Administrators and Proctors should “Actively” proctor the test

Active Proctoring Includes • Supervise the room at all times during testing • Answer student questions that pertain only to the clarification of test administration directions • Verify that students are marking their answers in the proper locations in their answer documents • Be on the look-out for students using INK

Active Proctoring Includes • Maintaining accurate sign-in sheets and test material inventory during testing • Watching for student misconduct • Use of inappropriate resources (scratch paper, calculators, cell phones, iPods, etc.) • Disruptive behavior • Giving or receiving answers • “Imposter” students

Active Proctoring Includes • Confirming that correct student name is handwritten, by student, on both test book and answer document • Confirming that all test materials have been returned prior to dismissing students • Not allowing students to use extra paper for writing. Only responses that are handwritten in pencil on the pages designated “Final Copy” will be scored

Students Who Leave the Room During Testing • Students may be allowed to go to restroom, if necessary, during testing • Only one student may leave at a time • Student test materials must be collected before the student leaves the room and then given back to the student upon returning to the room TAD 8

Students Who Leave the School During Testing • Students who need to leave school before completing a particular content area are ineligible to continue the test for that content area • The Test Administrator should inform the student they will not be permitted to finish that content area • The student’s answer document must be sent for scoring • The Arizona Department of Education recommends that documentation identifying the time the student left the testing room and the reason for leaving early be kept and then later attached to the student’s test report TAD 8

Disruptive Students • Students who disrupt testing, refuse to participate, receive help from others, or engage in unacceptable behavior should be subject to disciplinary procedures established by the school • Disruptive and misbehaving student should be allowed to continue testing in a different location so that other students may test undisturbed • The Arizona Department of Education recommends that the student’s parents or guardians receive written notification of the incident and its consequences TAD 8

  31. When Students Finish a Test Session • When a student has finished a testing session, the test administrator should collect student test materials. • After student materials have been turned in, students may read or do classwork silently while waiting for the scheduled testing session to end. TAD 9

Use of Resources During AIMS Testing • Electronic devices, including, but not limited to, computers, calculators, cell phones, digital watches, personal digital assistants, and portable music players, are prohibited • Students may use commercially published paper dictionary and/or a commercially published paper thesaurus for the AIMS HS writing test only – may not be used during Reading or Math • Mathematic manipulatives, charts, and aids, including, but not limited to a ruler, number line, compass, and an abacus, may NOT be used in any portion of AIMS HS. NEW Accommodations • The accommodations available to students while testing are limited to those listed in the Testing Accommodations: Guidelines for 2007-2008 • http://www.ade.az.gov/standards/aims/Administering/TestingAccommodations2007-08.pdf • All test administrators should be familiar with the Testing Accommodations Guidelines for 2007-2008 • It is the responsibility of the Testing Administrator to see that students who qualify for testing accommodations receive them 34

  35. NEW Accommodations • Arizona offers two levels of accommodations to students participating in state assessments • Universal Accommodations • Standard Accommodations • Non-Standard Accommodations are no longer available Note: See letter from Tom Horne in packet 35

  36. Universal Accommodations • Minor change in testing practices or procedures • Do not change what the students is responsible for learning or demonstrating • Are available to all students as deemed needed by the teacher

  37. Standard Accommodations • Provisions made in how a student accesses and demonstrates learning • Does not substantially change the instructional level, the content, or the performance criteria • Must have an IEP, 504, or be an ELL to be considered for standard accommodations

Student Bar Code Labels • Students with enrollment data in SAIS by 9/11/07 will receive student bar code labels • If there is a label, use it • If Student Demographic information is incorrect:Use the label and have school personnel bubble the correct information in the lower half of the back of the answer document after testing

  43. Student Identification Information • Directions to be read to students are included in the administration directions for each day and content area of AIMS HS • Test Administrators that do not read this information to students are violating test administration procedures

  44. For Students Without a Label • The student demographic grid on the back must be completed by school personnel • The top half is to be completed before testing • The bottom half is to be completed after testing

  48. After Testing • Test administrators should inspect test books and answer documents for scorability only • Answer documents must be stacked with front covers facing up by cohort • Test books should be stacked separately by subject

  49. Returning Materials to Warehouse • Separate your HS scorable and nonscorable materials • Box them separately! • Mark whether box contains scorables or nonscorables • Return all unused labels in the nonscorable boxes

  50. Processing Errors • Most processing errors result from the organization of scoreable documents • Double, triple check that there are no answer documents stuck inside a test booklet • Make sure that for every student who tested (check sign-in sheets) that an answer document has been turned in • Schools will need to incur the cost ($287) of a late scoring fee, if an answer document is found in a test booklet and they will not receive a score report until January
