About Cavaliers Rugby • Founded in 2009 • Non-profit, all-volunteer organization • Charter member of NCYRA • League comprising 80+ youth rugby clubs • http://www.ncyrugby.org/ • Fielded 7 sides in 2012, with 155 players • Played 15s & 7s (Olympic) rugby seasons • Welcomes players from many cities: • Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon, Sunol, Castro Valley, San Leandro, Tracy & beyond

Match Logistics • Match Day of the Week • U8/U10/U12 & MS: Mostly Sundays • High Schools: Mostly Saturdays • Half home (Livermore)/half away • Match days: 3-4 hour time commitment • Arrive 1 hour ahead, to warm up • Match play: 1 hour • Post game awards & feed: 30 minutes • Travel time, to & from venue • League & club goal: Try to keep U8/U10/U12/MS sides together at the same venue

Player responsibilities • Attend rugby practices • Be on time • Be prepared with the proper equipment • Cleats, mouthpiece, water, warm clothing • Attend matches & tournaments • Communicate upcoming absences to coaches • Respect teammates & coaches • Recruit friends to join the club • Have fun!

Parent responsibilities • Provide transportation to players • To practices, matches & tournaments • Carpools are available! • Keep up-to-date • Regularly read emails and club website/Facebook • Support the club as a volunteer • Hospitality @ matches & tournaments • Photograph & video • Field marshal & field prep • Coaching & referee support

  25. FAQ • Is there a deadline for joining the club? • No, new players can join at any time. Please recruit! • My 6th grader is 11 yrs old. Which age group? • If he/she turned 12 after 1-Sept 2012, either U12, Middle School or both. Your choice. • My player is smaller but over the birth date cutoff. Can he/she play at a lower level? • Yes. If we have sufficient players to form two sides per age group, player will be divided by weight and play same-weight sides from other clubs

FAQ • Will rain cancel practice & home matches? • No, when the venue is an all-weather field • End of the year party? • U8/U10 & U12: 1st week of April • HS & MS: 2nd week of May • Sibling Discounts? • 10% off the lesser dues amounts of the 2nd & any additional siblings • Are payment plans available? • Yes. Please see a board member

  27. FAQ • My child has never played rugby before. Can he/she still compete? • Over 50% of club players are 1st year players • Skills in other sports carry over into rugby • Basketball – passing and moving to open space • Wrestling – close contact • Soccer – running • Football – running with the ball & tackling • Cross country & track: running, fitness & endurance

  28. FAQ • Can my child play other sports during the same season? • Yes! In fact, rugby will condition your player for his/her other sports. • Cavalier Team Pictures • Likely on 23-Feb vs. Danville • $20 photo credit included with club dues

  29. FAQ • How competitive is NorCal youth rugby? • Youth rugby is about fun and learning the sport. As a result, no league standings are kept at U8 through Middle School. • NorCal High School rugby is very competitive: The national and state champions play in our division. • Girls: Which Cavaliers team? • 9th – 12th grade girls: Girls Varsity • K through 6th grade girls: Coed age group teams • 7th & 8th grade girls: Either team or both
