  • Each faculty in the University has its own Information Package, whichprovides a description of the University of Ruse, of the Faculty and the courses offered by it, in order to help prospective ECTS students to prepare their study period at this institution.

The ects credits

The ECTS Credits

  • ECTS credits are allocated units to describe the student workload required to complete them.

  • In ECTS, 60 credits represent the workload of a year of study; normally 30 credits are given for a semester

  • No special courses are set up for ECTS purposes, but all ECTS courses are mainstream courses of the participating institutions.

  • Credits are awarded only when the course has been completed and all required examinations or other assessment activities have been successfully passed.

  • Detailed information about disciplines is given in the information package of each degree programme.

  • Bachelor programs

    • curricula for each program. It includes studied courses for each semester. Courses are compulsory and elective (group of elective, from which 1 or 2 courses have to be chosen);

  • Bachelor programs

    • for each course in the curricula there are given hours of:

      • auditorial (supervised) workload;

      • independent workload;

      • working on an individual assignment.

        On the basis of all hours for a semester the ECTS credits for each of the courses included are determined.

    • lectures;

Components used on defining ects credits for the curricula1

Components, used on defining ECTS credits for the curricula

  • Independent work, including:

    • work on assignment – 10, 20, 40 or 60 hours, depending on its type (essay, two types of course assignment or project);

    • self preparation (training) for the exam – includes the time, needed for the training through the exam session;

    • self preparation (training) through the semester – individual work, consultations with the lecturer, training for the studies, protocols, continuous assessments, papers, seminars etc.

  • The whole planned workload for all courses in a semester is at the range of 800 hours, which are distributed in 30 credits between the courses, having in mind:

    • auditorial workload;

    • the type of individual assignment;

    • the form of the final control – exam orcontinuous assessment.

  • 10 credits are given for the graduation, which are included in the whole sum of 30 credits for the last semester.

  • How credits should be determined?Credits are numbers for the determination of studying workload for each course.

  • 1 credit = 15 hours auditoria workload;1 semester = 30 credits1 academic year = 60 credits4 academic years = 240 credits

Number and type credits for a course

  • Credit types, depending on course types, are:

    • knowledge adoption (mainly auditorial forms);

    • skills construction (mainly independent forms);

    • compulsory (fundamental knowledge);

    • elective and facultative (specialized knowledge).

Number and type credits for a course

  • Maximum credit points for a course have to be:

    • for lectures: 4 = 60 hours;

    • for seminars and workshops: 3 = 45 hours;

    • for independent work: 3 = 90 hours;

    • for practical foreign language study:

      10 = 150 hours;

    • for a course: 8 = 90 hours.

Ects students

ECTS Students

  • ECTS Students - full credit for all academic work.

  • Credits - transferred to the home university and fully replace the annual/semester workload.

  • Students can study abroad for a certain period of time without any loss of semesters and exams.

  • Some students may graduate from the host university.
