Key concepts include • B) recognition of harmful and risky behaviors • C) the benefits of stress management and stress-reduction techniques; • E) factors that affect school success • G) development of healthy interpersonal relationships.

  3. Journal #1 • List and describe a few ways you deal with stress.

  4. Vocabulary • Mental and emotional health- The ability to handle the stresses and changes of everyday life in a reasonable way. • Personality- A combination of your feelings, likes, dislikes, attitudes, abilities, and habits. • Empathy- Identifying with and sharing another person’s feelings.

  5. Thinking Critically • Why do you think that showing empathy is a sing of mental/emotional health?

  6. Thinking Critically • Why might your mental and emotional health suffer if you don’t practice healthful eating?

  7. Vocabulary • Self-concept- The way you view yourself overall • Self-esteem- How you feel about yourself.

  8. Benefits of self-esteem • Taking care of yourself, including your health and personal hygiene • Enjoying meeting and being with others. • Increased opportunities. You are willing to take on challenges. • Having confidence. People with high self-esteem tend to think that they will succeed before they try new activities.

  9. Building Self-Esteem • Set realistic goals. • Focus on what you are naturally good at. • Ask for help when you need it. • Accept that no one is perfect.

  12. Types of Emotions • Happiness • Sadness • Anger • Fear • Grief

  15. Vocabulary • Stress- the bodies response to real of imagined dangers or other life events. • Positive Stress- stress that can help you reach your goals. • Distress- Stress that prevents you from doing what you need to do, or stress that causes you discomfort.
