  11. Urban Stream Chloride Levels • Chloride levels frequently exceed chronic and acute water quality criteria • Chronic = 230 mg/L • Acute = 860 mg/L • Highest levels are more centrally located • Lowest levels occur near western outskirts

Impaired Waters & TMDLs • Water quality data forms the basis of the list of impaired waters (i.e., 303(d) list) • 20 St. Louis City & County impaired streams on list • Common pollutants: bacteria & chloride • Waters on the 303(d) list  Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) • TMDL=Pollution “Diet Plan” • Implemented through NPDES Permits • Local TMDL Update • No new TMDLs were proposed in 2013 • In 2014, anticipate revising bacteria (E. coli) TMDLs for 4 streams in MSD
