  1. NARRATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE OPENING OF SEVEN The first shot we see form the film is that of Morgan Freeman getting dressed and ready for work. Since we don’t know who exactly he is, this sets off the first enigma code of the film. He visits a crime scene, where two people appear to have been murdered, and where there is also child missing. Freeman’s colleague become irritated by him when he’s asked if whether the kid saw the murder. Soon after Dtv. Mills (Pitt’s character) enters the scene and meets Freeman, who he is set to replace by the end of the week. They go out into the streets to continue their conversation, where Freeman questions why Pitt would want to get transferred to a city as bad as this one-this further develops the enigma code. In the scene after that he’s in his bedroom where he releases a metronome to block out all the horrible sounds coming from the city outside. This is a key scene for his character, which establishes his overall cynical outlook on life.
