  1. La Posesión (pg. 81) Ways of expressing possession to show that something belongs to someone.

Use of “de” to show possession: El uso de “de”: • de = of, to whom it belongs • de = ‘s in English and it replaces the apostrophe ‘s because it doesn’t exist in Spanish • To express possession with de: (de + person(s)) Ex: los libros de Susana = Susan’s books Ex: la casa de Eduardo y Enrique = Eduardo & Enrique’s house Ex: la clase favorita de Ana = Ana’s favorite class

De with articles: de + la = los papeles de la chica de + los / las = los libros de los chicos • *Contractions: De combines with el to form the contraction del (if used before a masculine noun) Ex: la clase del profesor (de + el profesor = del profesor) Ex: ¿Quién es el director del colegio? Sr. Trummer es el director del colegio.

  4. Ahoras: Express to whom it belongs using the possession in Spanish: • Jose’s backpack • The teacher’s (f) desk • The student’s (m) books • Anita’s & Marta’s friends • Maricela’s favorite class • The class’s posters • The school’s teachers • Pedro’s clothes

  5. To state to whom something belongs use SER with “de”: Ex: es with 1 object = it belongs to….. (Es el libro del profesor) Ex: son with 2 objects = they belong to…. (Son las carpetas de Marcos y Ana) • Questions asking possession: Ex: ¿De quién es la pluma? La pluma es de Miguel Ex: ¿De quién son los libros? Son los libros de Marta y Miguel.

  6. Practica: ¿De quién es? – Pair work I. Figure out to whom each class item(s) belong: (Ques. & Answ.) ex: books/Enrique & Lola = ¿De quién son los libros? Los libros son de Enrique y Lola. • Pens / Manuel • Ruler / Anita • Dictionary / profesor Vega • Folders / the girls • Pencils / Ana & Lupe • Computer / the class

  7. Translate into Spanish: • I have Cristina’s notebook in my backpack. • In Mateo’s class there are many students. • The markers belong to the teacher (m). • Eduardo’s and Enrique’s Spanish class is at 10:45am. • The boy’s favorite sport is soccer. • We need to meet Amanda’s friends at the mall after school today. • They need to go to Ana’s & Lucia’s house at 4:15pm.
