  3. Schooling Awarded a scholarship at St. Michael’s in Luneburg Long Trip with his friend Exposed him to a wider variety of European culture

  4. Arnstaldt to Weimar(1703-08) Took a post at the chapel of Duke Johann Ernst in Weimar Took a post at ST. Boniface’s church in 1703 Leave of absence in 1705 – 1706

  5. Arnstadt to Weimar(1703-08) Took a post at St Blasius’s Married Maria Barbara Bach

  6. Weimar (1708-17) Became court organist and concertmaster at Weimar. Start of a period of composing. Bach was jailed for a month before being dismissed.

  7. Köthen (1717-23) Leopold, Prince of Anhalt-Köthen hired bach as his Kapellmeister Bach’s wife died on July 7, 1720 Later he was remarried to Anna Magdalena Wilcke.

  8. Leipzig (1723-50) Appointed Cantor of Thomasschule. Tension between Bach and the City-Estate faction. He was required to teach students

  9. Death (1750) Bach’s health began to decline in 1749. John Taylor operated on Bach. Bach died on July 28, 1750

  11. Ritornello Is a form from baroque Ritornellos returns to the main theme throughout a piece. Brandenburg Concertos follow the ritornello form
