  2. Project group • HansenBerg • Aalborg Technical College • Roskilde Technical College • GUU (Trade Committee) • CIRIUS • Danish Ministry of Education EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  3. Internationalisation are coming We have to embrace it and turn it into a tradition and routine ECVET – EQF – transparency – comparability – credit transfer • Ooo my, so many fine and easy words and abbreviations We have to make it into: • Practical “low-tech” cooperation • Pragmatic and useable solutions EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  4. The two parts of this presentation • First Peter will be talking endlessly about the project and the ideas • Secondly Anders Finderup, Media Graphics Designer Student talking (a lot more interestingly) abut the project from a students point of view EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  5. The idea and the project What was it all about? • The aim of our project was to try creating and establishing • A framework for mutual recognition of core vocational skills and qualifications • Transparency and the ability to compare • An international dimension in the media graphics designer education • Strengthen the international aspects of our vocational educationMaking it a tradition and “routine” EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  6. The idea and the project Results and thoughts • Finding partners is not that easy • We have been doing cooperation's with Norway and Finland • Tried to get it on tracks with the UK and Germany EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  7. Results and thoughts • It is possible to compare educations and using this knowledge in practices • The “secrets of the trade” are international • The traditions and curriculum are national • Take the practical approach • Are the learning outcomes and levels comparable? • Do we trust each other? EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  8. Show me yours... Agreeing on the content and objects • Memorandum of understanding • Both learning content and practical aspects • Description of aims and learning outcomes • The learning environment • Get the teachers activated • Be specific or face problems... it can still go utterly wrong... EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  9. Giving credits Giving credit for what? Transfer and validation • Our project takes it starting point in the optional specialization subjects • Subjects unique to the Danish education • These are: Graphic workflow, Internet production, Colornanagement, Creativity, Multimedia production etc. • The problem is the Journeyman's test and the “system” • Not easy “getting new knowledge” into the system EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  10. Giving credit for what? • Transfer and validation • The memorandum are the basis • The learning outcomes are the key • Synoptic comparison of learning outcomes • Isn’t easy, but is necessary • We use the same words, but understands often something different Are the teacher the obstacle or maybe the students? EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  11. Giving credit for what? Transfer and validation • In practices... • Working with the learning outcomes... Theme based classes/courses • The credits are given on basis of the Danish subjects In Denmark of course... • Flexibility and creativeness is required We all have to give and take EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  12. Giving credit for what? Transfer and validation • In practices... • In our partners we trust... • In the test phase we have sent out teachers to take part in the evaluation • The agreement/memorandum must state • Who will do what and how EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  13. The three main issues • Have the partners agreed upon a memorandum to define • Assessment, transfer and validation • Regarding credits • An agreement with the student (participant) • What shall they expect and what are to be done And yet it can go wrong EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  14. Barriers European • Levels and hierarchy in educations • Graphic educations are not always seen as VET • What is a typical VET level after all? • Educational systems are very complex • And definitely not the same, nor the traditions • From fulltime college to Dual system EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  15. Barriers National Regulations and laws • Restrictions and admission rules Inside the college... • Students are not always as eager as we think • Teachers question the value and results • Management thinks of the money... EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  16. Yes, it is possible and one day... Perspectives... • Full credit transfer and recognition • An integrated part even in VET • Cooperation not only across borders • but also vertically between institutions EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008

  17. AN ENDING? A students experiences… EGIN conference – Istanbul – April 2008
