Beyond the Basics


Workshop Goals

  • Provide additional info on eClass Grades, beyond the basic “1 grade per term usage”.

  • Provide an alternative to managing two separate gradebooks, via use of eClass.

  • Highlight options and customizations available in eClass.


Working with eClass Grades

An Overview


At the Start of the Term

  • Access your school’s eClass Data Server.

  • Using the eClass “Generic Class” file, import your eClass Rosters, and create your eClass “Class Files”.

  • Define Assignment Categories.

  • Setup Assignments.

  • Setup Styles/Report Preferences.

  • Save a Backup of your Data.


During the Term

  • Add Assignment Categories.

  • Add Assignments.

  • Create Seating Charts (if desired).

  • Enter Scores & Comments.

  • Print Reports (if desired).

  • Periodically update your Class Rosters.

  • Save a Backup of your Data.


At the End of the Term

  • Print Reports (if desired).

  • Export Term Marks to the Server.

  • Save a Backup of your Data.

Categories: “Total Points” Default (from your school’s Generic Class File)

Basic “1 grade per term usage”


Add Description & Weight

Pick an Empty Category

Categories: Modify/Add New


Categories(shown on Assignments screen)


Add Assignments

Select

1. To Add to list of assignments

  • Click in first empty description box

    2. To Insert a new assignment

  • Select assignment row BELOW which to insert a new assignment

  • From the Edit menu, choose Insert Row

  • Enter new information in each field


Copy All Assignments from One Class to Another Class

1. Open target Class

2. Class menu, choose Copy from...


Copy Some Assignment(s)

from One Class to Another Class

1. Highlight the Assignment(s)

2. Edit menu - Copy

3. Open the target class - Paste


Enter Student Scores

  • Click in column & type score

  • Use the Return or Enter key

    to go to the next student

  • Special Options - Edit menu

    • Fill Column

    • Fill Row

    • Jump To


Verify the Class

Enter Comments

  • Use Comments from Mac School (shown in italics)

    • Only these comments will be sent up with Term Marks.

  • From the Class menu, choose Comments and add your own Comments to the file

    • NOTE: Do not edit/delete existing MacSchool Comments!

  • Click “Student” window

  • Add Comment

    • (via control-click or right click)


Backup Your eClass Data!

Save a copy of your class files to a memory stick, file server, external drive, floppy, etc…

Just in case!


Extra Features of eClass

  • Set a Password for Class files

  • Drop Lowest Score(s)

  • Curve Scores

  • Student Notes

  • The Seating Window

  • Report Incomplete or Failing Students

eClass Reporting Options


What is a “Style” File?

  • “Style” Files are created to save the many options chosen for a given report or reports.

  • Use the “Default” style before printing or “Open Style” (for your saved styles).


How to Use Style Files

  • You can create a Style File for each report

  • Define options for each Style File

    • Student Data

    • Grades

    • General Report Prefs

    • Font and Size of text

    • Individual Report Preferences

  • Group

  • Individual

  • Multi-Class

  • Roll Book

  • Summary

  • Comment List

  • Histograms

  • Graphs

Save - Sort - Preview - Print

Saving Your Styles

  • File menu - Save Style As

  • Name your new Style

  • Tip:

    • 1. Print 1 page of your Report with the Default style.

    • 2. Mark each item you wish to edit.

    • 3. Make all changes.

    • 4. Save Style as new file.


Sending Term Grades to the Server

  • File menu - Export Term Marks

  • Verify the correct Term and Server folder is selected before exporting.


Backup Your eClass Data!

Save a copy of your class files and style files to a memory stick, file server, external drive, floppy, etc…
