  4. Motor vehicle traffic crashes make up 20% of TBI cases

  5. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the U.S.

  6. Who is most at risk for TBI? Males are about 1.5 times as likely as females to sustain a TBI and the two age groups at highest risk for TBI, and 15 to 19 year olds. * Source – Centers for Disease Control & Prevention

  7. Did you know… • Even bright, mature teenagers • sometimes do irresponsible things • But it’s not entirely their fault • The brain doesn’t finish developing until the early 20’s

  20. PREVENTION AND EDUCATION ARE KEY

  21. Don't drive like you own the road. Drive like you own the car.

  22. Prevention: other vehicles Since 28% of head injuries are from falls, which include bicycle and motorcycle crashes, wearing a helmet is VERY important.

  23. EDUCATION! • Driver’s education is CRITICAL!   • Graduated Driver Licensing laws have been proven effective at reducing teen crashes. • Driver’s education works better when it is coupled with GDL laws.
