  3. I. Student Survey • Thank you! District support for completing student interviews appreciated. • Interviews to be completed by January 31. • Contact Paul McCold if more time is needed to complete interviews. • Results will be used to analyze non-academic needs of migrant students and to work with the State Advisory Council to update State Service Delivery Plan to incorporate any resulting outcomes.

  4. II. Program Updates • Program Monitoring • Time and Effort - ensure all staff funded with federal funds have supporting documentation such as schedule, list of students served, and logs or other documentation reflecting time charged. • Priority for Service – ensure district or school can demonstrate how the identified needs of PFS migrant students are addressed. A list of PFS students is sent to your district on a monthly basis. • Parent Advisory Council – ensure district can demonstrate PAC was involved in planning, implementation, and evaluation of local program. • Professional Development – ensure staff performing recruiting and student data reporting have received annual training.

Program Updates • Supplemental Reporting Requirements • Academic Support • Report minutes for every migrant student provided Migrant Program funded academic services in reading, writing, science, and math. • Use minutes log provided by Migrant Student Data and Recruitment office located in the Migrant Student Information System. • Non-Academic Support • End-of-Year Reports

Program Updates • Budget Revision Per Grant Application Instructions: Budget revisions that change the size and scope of program services by at least 10% or will include purchase of supplies or materials are due by April 17, 2013. Materials must be received with sufficient time to be used with migrant students that fiscal period. Small adjustments to staff FTE or salaries can be submitted on an on-going basis.

Student Summer Events/Activities • 2013 Dare to Dream Academy (currently enrolled 8thand 9th grade migrant students) • Central Washington University - June 9-14 • Eastern Washington University – June 23 – 28 • University of Washington – June 23 – 28 • Academic Academy (currently enrolled 10th and 11th grade migrant students) • Washington State University – June 23-28 (two concurrent strands one in math, one in science) • University of Washington – June 23-28 (science) • Central Washington University – June 9-14 (science) • Voices from the Field (currently enrolled 6th and 7th grade migrant students) • Islandwood(Bainbridge Island) – June 24-28 (science, math, writing)

  8. IV. Summer School 2013 • Preliminary Allocations have been released. Notify OSPI by February 1 of intention to apply for summer funds. • Grant application scheduled to be released late February/Early March • Math MATTERS workshop to be offered this spring.

  10. VI. State Conference • August 15-16, 2013 (Yakima Convention Center) • Required training for recruiter and records clerk • Training strands for federal programs directors, graduation specialists/student advocates, and paraprofessional staff. • Parent strand • Student strand

Parent Involvement • Training Series for Parent Advisory Councils • K20 Videoconference System • Training I, Parent Advisory Council requirements – January 30 (registration deadline Monday, January 28) • Training II, Strategies for effective meetings – February 27 (registration deadline, Monday, February 25) • Training III, Evaluating the local program – March 27 (registration deadline, Monday, March 25) • Communication Survey – State Advisory Committee – conduct with local migrant parents, summarize and submit to OSPI by March 8.

  12. Binational Teacher Exchange • Same application process as previous year. • School District to take the lead in sponsoring teacher(s) from Mexico. • District may need to cover expenses including the J-1 Visa and teacher stipends. • Excellent opportunity to bring in teachers with academic background in math or science and strengthen parent engagement. • OSPI will support districts in sponsoring teachers.
