  5. College Credit Plus • You and a parent must attend a CCP Information Meeting. The times and dates were sent in messenger earlier this semester. • Intent form due by April 1st • For more info contact Kristi.Massey@beavercreek.k12.oh.us

  6. Scheduling Requirements for 9th Grade

  7. Student Course Load • Students must take a minimum of 6 courses each semester (No more than 1 study hall per semester)

  8. Teacher Recommendations CORE CLASSES • You must have a teacher recommendation to for scholarship or honors classes in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. • Science Acceleration - You must complete an application and pass the required test to accelerate into biology for 9th grade. Applications are due April 18th! See your science teacher for more information. Only available to students currently enrolled in an Algebra I course in 8th grade. WORLD LANGUAGE (Spanish, French, German) • Level 1 - You must have a recommendation from your English teacher • Level 2 – You must have a recommendation from your world language teacher

  9. Health 1/2 credit Health Zero Period • This takes place BEFORE the scheduled school day • The school day starts at 8:15 • Zero Period starts at 7:15 • You will be responsible for arranging your own transportation for this if you choose to take this course. • This will create space in your schedule for an additional class while still allowing you to earn your required Health credit during 9th grade.

  10. Physical Education 1/2 credit 2 semester classes (each worth ¼ credit) = ½ credit OR PE Waiver: 2 seasons of an approved sport/marching band or 2 years of AFJROTC OR Summer PE (6 weeks) – More information will be available in May

Fine Arts 1 credit As a freshman, you can choose from the following courses to complete your fine art requirement for graduation: Year-long Courses • Band • Choir • Audition Required – you will be placed in the correct band or choir class by a counselor after all auditions are complete Semester Courses • Art I 2D • Art I 3D • Arts, Crafts, & Appreciation • Drawing • Acting I • Advanced Acting (Pre-Req)

Elective Credits 5 credits You can choose from the following courses to complete your elective credit requirements for graduation: • World Language (Spanish, French, German) • English Electives • Social Studies Electives • Business Electives • Intro to Engineering Design • AFJROTC *World language is not a requirement for high school graduation, but it is a requirement for entrance into most colleges and universities.

Intro to Engineering Design 1 Credit • This course introduces the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering standards to identify and design solutions to a variety of real problems • Students will work both individually and in collaborative teams • Topics include work-processes, optimization methods, design optimization, and risk management tools. • Students will use 2D and3D modeling software to help them design solutions to solve proposed problems, document their work, and communicate solutions. • Students will interpret industry prints, and create working drawings from functional models. Emphasis is given to experimental problem solving in real systems.

AFJROTC 1 Credit Objectives of AFJROTC: • train high school cadets in citizenship • promote community service • instill responsibility, character, and self-discipline Air Force core values: • integrity first • service before self • excellence in all we do. Study Hall No Credit Benefits of a study hall: • Complete homework at school during busy sports/extra curricular seasons • Make up missing tests and quizzes when absent • Extra time/help with homework • Access to internet and computers for online assignments • Time to organize materials • Time to recharge during the day Consider your time commitments outside of school, access to resources, and level of coursework

  17. Schedule Changes • Pick your courses wisely by reading the Program of Studies (found online). Make sure you are able to handle your courses and your other responsibilities. • ALL COURSE REQUEST CHANGES MUST BE MADE BY April 18th! • Schedule Changes will not be made next year due to teacher conflicts, changes of mind, or because the class was “not what you thought”.

  18. Additional Information • You NEED to be sure to list at least 3 back up class choices on your scheduling form. Your counselor needs this if there is a conflict in your requested classes! • You need to bring you completed form with parent signature to register next week: March 21st During FLEX

  21. Daily Schedule • Our school day begins at 8:15 am and ends at 3:00 pm • We have 7 periods in our day

  22. Chromebooks • All students will receive a Chromebook to use at school and home after completing the necessary permission forms. • Chromebooks provide access to Google Apps for Education, online textbooks, and district provided web-based resources. • You will use your Chromebooks regularly in your classes and to complete homework and school projects. • All school policies must be followed in using the Chromebooks. The device is an educational tool and not intended for gaming, social networking, or high end computing.

  23. Lockers • All students are assigned a locker. It will be on your schedule in August. • You need to supply your own lock for your locker. • Students are allowed to carry their book bags during the day.

  24. Dress Code • Use common sense and you generally will not have a problem • No tank tops, spaghetti straps, short shorts or short skirts • No hats or hoods • No clothing with logos that promote violence, drugs, alcohol or sex • No sunglasses • See the student handbook online to review the specific policies

  25. Extracurricular Activities There is truly something for everyone at BHS • Sports • Intramural sports • Band, Choir • Clubs Information can be found on the school’s website.
