  3. 64% of Resolutions Make Last Longer Than 1 Month • 46% Last Beyond 6 Months

  4. Jonathan Edwards’ 70 Resolutions • #4 Resolved, never to do any manner of thing, whether in soul or body, less or more, but what tends to the glory of God; nor be, nor suffer it, if I can avoid it.

  5. Jonathan Edwards’ 70 Resolutions • #17 Resolved, that I will live • so as I shall wish I had done • when I come to die.

  6. Jonathan Edwards’ 70 Resolutions • #19 Resolved, never to do anything, which I should be afraid to do, if I expected it would not be above an hour, before I should hear the last trump.

  7. Jonathan Edwards’ 70 Resolutions • #43 Resolved, never henceforward, till I die, to act as if I were any way my own, but entirely and altogether God’s, agreeable to what is to be found

  8. Jonathan Edwards’ 70 Resolutions • At the very top of the list: • Remember to read over these Resolutions once a week.

  9. Philippians 4:4-7 • 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! • 5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

  10. Philippians 4:4-7 • 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

  11. Philippians 4:4-7 • 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

  12. Philippians 4:4-7 • THE OBJECT OF OUR REJOICING IS CHRIST!

  13. Philippians 4:4-7 • We are called to rejoice ALWAYS

  14. Philippians 4:4-7 • JOY: Not a feeling or an emotion that changes based on our circumstances. Instead a CONFIDENCE that God is in control of everything, for our good and HIS GLORY

  15. Philippians 4:4-7 • JOY is a CHOICE

  16. Philippians 4:4-7 • JOY is rooted in our KNOWLEDGE OF GOD THROUGH CHRIST

  17. Philippians 4:4-7 • AW Tozer: • “The church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted one so low, so ignoble as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshiping men. This she has done, not deliberately, but little by little

  18. Philippians 4:4-7 • and without her knowledge; and her very unawareness only makes her situation all the more tragic. • The low view of God entertained almost universally among Christians is the cause of a hundred lesser

  19. Philippians 4:4-7 • evils everywhere among us. A whole new philosophy of the Christian life has resulted from this one basic error in our religious thinking.”

  20. Philippians 4:4-7 • JOY IN CHRIST LEADS TO GRACIOUSNESS WITH OTHERS

  21. Philippians 4:4-7 • The natural outcropping of Joy in Christ is Graciousness toward others

  22. Philippians 4:4-7 • JOY IN CHRIST LEADS TO UNSPEAKABLE PEACE

  23. Philippians 4:4-7 • Our Problems are Real • Our Concerns are Real • Our Fears are Real • Our Issues in Life are Real

  24. Philippians 4:4-7 • Trust in the Lord • Trust in His Goodness • Rest in His Grace • Live in His Mercies

  25. Philippians 4:4-7 • Trust in His SOVEREIGN CONTROL AND AUTHORITY Over Everything

  26. Philippians 4:4-7 • Matthew 6:31-34 • 31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek.

  27. Philippians 4:4-7 • For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry

  28. Philippians 4:4-7 • about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  29. Philippians 4:4-7 • Jesus doesn’t tell us ‘do not worry’ because our problems aren’t real. Jesus tells us not to worry because of our INFINITE VALUE to Him.

  30. Philippians 4:4-7 • John 14:27 • 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

  31. Philippians 4:4-7 • Jesus has promised us His peace because the mission that we’ve been called to is IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT IT.
