  5. Station Database Program The station database incorporate the basic station specifications Name Domain name server Name of the reference downloader Local data logging file Scheduled downloading period in 24h The operator of this database can define if a station is active for downloading or not. Station database program creates the “Global Configuration Table” GCT Direct Data Collection from Neutron Monitor Stations

  6. The Scheduler Program GCT table has a column for every station that participate the data collection scheme. The rows represent minutes in 24hours Based on the downloading period of any station, the station database program puts an ace “1” in the minute that there is a scheduled downloading for a station The GCT table is input for a program named “Scheduler” The “Scheduler” reads the GCT table every minute and based on the information of the GCT and the information of the Station database call the downloading program for every station and saves the data in the referenced directory Direct Data Collection from Neutron Monitor Stations

  7. The Downloaders Multiple independent parallel downloaders. One Downloader for every station Problems with one station don’t effect the others Different types of downloaders. 14. GLE Alert System Environment

  15. GLE Alert System • N independent downloaders one for each station that participates the alert project [STATION]_downlader.exe

  16. For every station there is a program named [station]_GLE_alert.exeThis program every minute calculates in real time the mean value of the last 60 minutely measurements and Compares this value with a threshold that is N*Sigma The threshold multiplier N has been defined for every station as the value for which for the past 10 years GLE alerts we see the maximum number of true alerts with the minimum number of false.

  17. Moving Threshold 1 2 3 4 5 Station GLE Alert • if the last measurement exceeds the threshold, the program writes down a pre-alert point • If we have 5 pre-alert points in succession we define a Station Alert

  18. SupervisionProgram • A program named Check_For_alert checks every minute the status of every station. • If this program detects at least three stations in “station alert mode” then produces a General GLE Alert Signal

  19. Network Presentation of Alert evolution The network presentation of the GLE alert created with a program named Make_Page this program every minute creates a web page that describes the status of every station that participates the GLE alert network Every bar presents a pre-alert point

  20. Alarm Notification e-mail notification GSM Phone Notification Phone Call Notification

  21. 15/04/01 non real time data results

  22. 13/12/06 real time data results 1min update every min Alert Time 03:05 Onset Time 02:51 4 station in GLE alert system that day Three stations in alert

  23. Major Demands for the GLE Forecasting System Please make neutron monitors with 1min Data and 1min network refreshing rate (ftp http or asp don’t care) Please make common reference time (Internet time synchronization is enough)
