  3. What is a Mentor/Protégé • Mentoring is the process by which those with more experience provide advice, support, and knowledge to those with less experience. Mentors possess the wisdom that only experience can provide, and share it with Protégés who are truly interested in expanding their depth of knowledge in Public Procurement

Why the need and benefits of participating? • Develop Future Public Procurement Professionals and Leaders • Mentors are able to share their invaluable knowledge • Address Aging Workforce • Adds Value to Public Procurement Profession • Foster Professional Relationships • Enhance Protégé knowledge/core capabilities in Public Procurement

  5. Possible Activities • Discuss career goals, paths, challenges and possibilities • Discuss current public procurement issues/changes to law • Be a sounding board • Attend a business/board meeting with mentor • Practice interviewing/presentation skills • Assist with certification process and prep for testing

  6. Open Discussion • What are your thoughts on creating such a program? • What are time commitments you feel are feasible?

  7. Next Steps • Create a team of 3-4 volunteers to help define mentorship program objectives, time and commitment requirements and recruitment • Host a networking/social event to introduce all participants • Match mentors/mentees • Receive bi annual feedback from participants for lessons learned • Exoand to mentoring students in college seeking public service jobs
