  5. Basic Unit of Life • The cell is the basic unit of life. • Although living things may look very different, they are all made up of one or more cells.

  6. Ferroplasma Halobacteria E. coli L. acidophilus Prokaryotes Find these organisms in the Domain & Kingdom cards. These are all Prokaryotes. Record characteristics of these organisms in your notebook.

  7. Prokaryotic Cells Prokaryotic cells are simple and independent. All prokaryotes are single-celled organisms. Prokaryotic cells do not have organized, membrane-bound internal structures such as a nucleus or other organelles.

  8. Destroying Angel Algae Barnacle Paramecium Eukaryotes Find these organisms in the Domain & Kingdom cards. These are all Eukaryotes. Record characteristics of these organisms in your notebook.

  9. Eukaryotic Cells Some eukaryotic cells can survive on their own as single-celled organisms. Othersare part of a multicellular organism and cannot survive on their own. All eukaryotic cells have a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles.
