Introduction to Web 2.0 Technologies • Web 2.0 offers interactive information sharing, • allows its users to read and write the content. • The term "Web 2.0" has been introduced in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci. • Standards-oriented web browsers may use plug-ins and software extensions to handle the content and the user interactions.

Web 2.0 features and techniques • Search :Finding information through keyword search. • Links: Connects information together using the model of the Web • Authoring: The ability to create and update content leads to the collaborative work of many rather than just a few web authors. In blogs, posts and the comments are built up gradually. • Tags: Categorization of content by users. It must be short, with one-word descriptions - to facilitate searching. Collections of tags created by many users within a single system may be referred to as folktaxonomy. • Extensions: Software that makes the Web an application platform as well as a document server. • Signals: The use of syndication technology such as RSS to notify users of content changes.

Search engine • The search results are usually presented in a list of results and are commonly called hits • The very first tool used for searching on the Internet was Archie in 1990. • In folktaxonomies tag selection for best practices include: • using plurals rather than singulars • using lower case, • grouping words using an underscore, • following tag conventions started by others and • adding synonyms.

  7. Features of search Boolean logic : • use logic terms AND,OR and NOT to combine elements of search • Use + for AND, - for NOT to eliminate irrelevant information. • “ ………….” to search something specific.

  8. Search activities • Search 1: Interactive Islamic education • Search 2: Find how many times Riba (usury) is mentioned in Al-Quran. • Search 3: What is Google scholar?
