  2. IMPLEMENTATION REQUIREMENTS • Administrative tasks • Legal undertakings • Procedural requirements: - Advanced Informed agreement - LMO Food, Feed and Processing

Administrative tasks • Designation of focal point and competent Authority- - DoA designated as National Competent Authority: GMO Act is currently the national instrument for regulating GMOs through GMO Council - DEAT to remain focal point: Protocol under CBD and DEAT focal point • Provision of relevant information to the Clearing House: - BCH up and running: Managed by DoA - Population / Submission of information- on going • Monitoring of implementation - DEAT ‘s responsibility

Legal undertaking • Review and alignment of GMO Act - Analysis of gaps in the Act - Legal guidance on Articles - Common understanding of implications for environment, food security, trade. • Setting up of sustainable administrative structures - Setting up and Management of Biosafety Clearing House (BCH): BCH up and running under DoA - Public Access to BCH

Procedural Requirements: • Advanced Informed Agreement - Some of the current provisions of GMO Act provide for this, thus it is on-going. - In cases where not applicable, this will be incorporated in the review and amendment of GMO Act, information placed on BCH • LMO Food, Feed and Processing - Current provisions of GMO Act provide for this, thus it is on-going

  6. Progress made • Participation in Biosafety Clearing House: • Incorporation of information into relevant DoA documents eg. export permits
