  2. 5 State Symbols • 1.The Colorado state flower is the columbine. The columbine is white and lavender. The kids of Colorado voted for this flower in 1899. The first person to find this flower was named Edwin James. • 2.The state bird is the Lark Bunting. The Lark Buntings wings change color, in the winter they are gray. The Lark Buntings are a type of sparrow. The state bird was adopted in 1931. • 3.The state insect is the Hairstreak Butterfly. The Hairstreak Butterfly was adopted in 1996. This butterfly has a tail. This butterfly likes to eat tree sap, raindrops, and honeydew. • 4.The state reptile is the Western Painted Turtle. The Western Painted Turtle was adopted in 2007, not too long ago. In some states this turtle is called Chrysemyspictabellii. The turtle was named in 2008. • 5.The colors of the flag represent environmental features of the state. The state flag has 4 colors white, red ,blue, and yellow. Inside the “C” is a gold disk. The lines on this flag are amazingly even.

  3. When did it all happen? • Colorado was first found In 9200 B.C.. The 1st European to step into Colorado was Francisco Coronado. Denver city used to be named St. Charles. The Spanish first called Colorado “Colorado” because it had a red earth . Jefferson Territorial decided to make Colorado a good territory name in 1961. Colorado became a state in 1876.

  5. The part 2 • 1.The first place is Loveland. The perfect place to date. Loveland has gorgeous places to see. • 2. The Colorado state capital is very cool. At night it will blind you because it is so cool. At the top there is a red light. • 3.Next is Pearl Lake. This is a very pretty sight. This is actually the state park.

  6. Animals • 1. The Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. The horns on the bighorn sheep grow up to an amazing length, 50 inches long. This animal had absolutely perfect balance. • 2. This underwater animal is called Greenback Cutthroat Trout. This animal is white , pink , and green. This fish was adopted in 1994. This is a very pretty fish. • 3. This is an endangered animal. The name is the Gila Elegan. It lives in Ouray National Wildlife Refuge.

  7. Resources • 1.The Colorado state mineral is Rhodochrosite. This is a red, white, and blue mineral. The shape is a square mineral. • 2.The state gemstone is Aquamarine. The color of this gemstone is blue. Did you know that Colorado is known for mining? • 3.Lapis Lazuli is also found is Colorado. Lapis Lazuli is blue. Lapis Lazuli is a weird shape.

  8. 1st settlers • 1.A type of Native Americans called Basket Makers settled in the mesa country. They lived by a canyon. • 2.The first European was Francisco Vasquez. He has a funny name because he is Spanish. He was in the French and Indian wars. • 3.In the early 1800s in a small farm some people settled. In 1858they mined for gold.

  9. Fun facts • 1.Colorado has great places to sled and ski. • 2.Colorado is cold and chilly especially in the mountains in winter. • 3.At night the Denver State Capital lights up.
